Until Nicola confirms if we are going to pursue having indyref2 in this parliament term we are in limbo. That's not down to lack of enthusiasm or motivation or even interest. Just waiting on the nod... then it's all systems go!

If Nicola confirms a pursual of Indyref2 in this parliament it will result in a proverbial "kick in the ballots" much worse than the last one.My guess is she will say next to nothing on the subject for years now and hope no-one notices.Wise to do so imho.

The problem she has is that if she does that crazier independence supporters might launch a splinter party that could gain a bit of traction on the regional list. The way that the electorate reacts to the reality of a hard Brexit is difficult to predict at the moment. I suspect that it will kill this debate dead for a good few years if the SNP's posture revolves around getting back into the EU as 2014 Yes voters are split in a big way over that and some even switched to the Tories at the general election over that, but almost nobody saw the sudden rise of Corbynite Labour politics coming so electoral support for parties is best described as volatile in a way it wasn't a few decades ago and that makes the future direction of politics totally unclear.

Kejan
As for the original question, it depends on Brexit. If, and as it certainly looks at the moment that Brexit is going to be an utter disaster e.g pound falling even lower, massive inflation, unemployment, and of course Brits being stuck in Brussels airport for 4 hrs (DISASTER!) then you'd imagine within a few years ; but if somehow there's a deal/the UK doesn't leave or Brexit isn't bad, then I don't think we'll see one for a long, long time. SNP need to sit tight for the next few years, and I doubt we will have one by 2021 ; so the SNP might have to win another election before there is a second referendum. So much depends on what the f**k Brexit actually is. And it won't just be Scotland, it'll be northern Ireland too - still can't believe the DUP voted for Brexit, talking about turkeys voting for Christmas.
