A mate of mine's uncle did some stadium announcements for the SRU, and ended up doing a Samoa v Romania game (or something along those lines, possibly at a 7s).

He used to go and ask the press officer or team manager from each country to spell everything phonetically (fo-net-ih-kahl-ee), and then went off those notes.

Professional commentators, especially longstanding ones like Rob McLean, getting away with not bothering is ridiculous.

Yup. Yet there seems to be no way to hold them accountable.

Worse, they and their bosses think it's acceptable.

Yep, as simple as that. It only takes a couple of minutes. but even that amount of effort is beyond most of them.

Yup. Even a quick view of some Youtube clips/highlights would help. Basically a minimum of effort yet they can't be arsed.

Nobody goes into journalism because they like effort.

After "artist" it is the job that most lazy b*****ds think will be a doddle.

Derek Rae has said in the past that if he doesn't know how to pronounce a player's name, he'll do his utmost to find them pre-match to ask them.

That's why we now know it's Faissal El Bakh-tow-ee (tow as in down) rather than El Bakh-too-ee.

It's been the total opposite over here in Oz with regards the commentators saying the player's names right.

The lassie who does the presenting on SBS has had shit put on here from arseholes on social media FOR saying player's names right.

She's way better looking than Rob McLean as well...

I don't know if the Scottish BBC are just awful fucking journalists or genuinely stupid but they still don't understand the League Cup points system.

Is the penalty shoot-out  bonus point really difficult to understand? The usually excellent WorldFootball,Net have managed to really mash it up

Nice to see the BBC drop their live text after the Rangers game.

At least the link for the leagu cup took you to them saying cheerio from the only game that matters.

Absolutely disgusting.

lc groups are a chance to promote the scottish game when there is nothing else on,  and they just can't be arsed.

Am I being harsh on the female reporter who said Kenny Miller had a 100pc record. Despite reporting on a draw (albeit they got the bonus point for the shoot out)
