Albion Rovers v Super Ayr

Recommended Posts

McCall had one big decision to make at right back and got it horribly wrong.

We'll see a very different performance next week with players back in their proper positions.

All credit to Brian Reid when he was at Ayr got us promoted twice, however that's where his usefulness ended. He isn't a Championship manager and can't build on success. McCall has managed bigger Scottish teams such as Dundee, QOS, Falkirk and Falkirk therefore giving him greater experience as a manager, more than any other manager in League 1.

Last Success for McCall Forfarshire Cup with Dundee Utd No doubting he is the Scottish Mourinho

Got half a hotdog chucked at me lol caught it mid air didn't think Ayrshire folk could afford to throw away food

lol indeed.

For all the recriminations about playing Docherty at right back, I don't really see how it was a poor decision on McCall's part. He essentially had a choice between playing a defensive midfielder, an attacking midfielder or an unproven centre half there. I haven't seen enough of McCracken to know how he'd have fared, but Docherty over Crawford was entirely sensible.

If the complaints are centred more on our midfield being so over-reliant on Docherty that we can't even compete with this season's relegation favourites without him, we are already fucked with regards to promotion.

Ayr had 2 good chances 1st half looking at highlights, their number 2 should have put header on target and then with 2 players unmarked in the middle player decides to shoot and misses target

I don't know why he didn't just stick with what has worked last couple of outings and replace the suspended players with youngsters, keeping the same formation we have had. Players looked to play for each other and know their roles. Risky? Maybe, but what he did didn't really work out that well. Not a good day at the office to say the least.

I think Ayr thought they had to do was turn up and the 3 points was theirs

In all honesty, I hope you're right. If I was McCall, I'd have had every single player at Somerset this morning doing 100 laps of the pitch. No game is won by just turning up and he needs to get that drilled into the squad.

For this particular game Docherty would have helped as he sits quite deep and does the simple things very well. This could have helped stopped players running straight through the midfield at a central defence which can be slow and injury prone. Even with Devlin playing the right hand side is still weak until we get a proper wide midfielder playing well. On top of the right back ,right midfield, disruption to the spine of team we also still have Gilmour starting each week to contend with. For me this is the biggest issue that needs dealt with. Yesterday was a bad day at the office but I still see no reason why it can't be a useful wake up call to keep building on the good work that has already been happening.

Well that's just nonsense. Brian Reid is a very underrated manager. He will finish well above you this season, that goes without saying.

He's so rated very few teams would touch him after a so called 'successful period' at Ayr. Give him time and he will get you a lot closer to the lowland league than is desired.

An absolute shanner of a performance from first to last. Agree with whoever said our players thought they just had to turn up, there was zero fight from our boys and they never looked like putting any pressure on Albion.

It was fairly evident that Doc at full back wasn't gonna work, he never looked comfortable and should have been switched with (the appalling) Crawford after ten minutes.

Overall a shocking day for McCall and his players, letting the fans down big time. Anything less than 3 points at home to Brechin is totally unacceptable.

The center half and midfield pairings were the same as last year when we were shite so I don't think we should be too surprised at the result, we have looked ok with Campbell and McLaughlin and Murphy and McLaughlin but Campbell and Murphy.....not so good.

Gilmour and Crawford haven't made a challenge in two years either.
