St. Mirren vs Dumbarton

Recommended Posts

Good win for Dumbarton today, they battled well. But the service to Steven Craig was poor. He made some good runs and there was no service whatsoever. The vision displayed by the Dumbarton central midfielders was also poor. On too many occasions there were good opportunities to get the ball out wide and then get crosses in, but they were happy to dither on the ball giving the St Mirren players time to get back in position. Dumbarton offered little in the final third, but St Mirren were no better. A poor game in truth.

Well this just got weird. Are you like Rie is to Colin Nish, but to Craig?

E.T.A The reason we didn't spread play wide was because we were keen to retain possession rather than losing it cheaply playing ambitious balls and sticking us on the back foot. I thought Gal was outstanding again today, and Routledge is very, very effective at doing the dirty work.

I'm a huge fan of the great talent that is Steven Craig.

A number of the chances to play the ball out wide would hardly have required ambitious balls, unless Dumbarton players can't play a pass any further than 15-20 yards. On many occasions there was plenty of space for the pass to be played. They were not very difficult passes in truth, and often shortly after these chances, Dumbarton were losing possession anyway. You need to take some sort of risk if you want to create chances and score goals and Dumbarton weren't creating any chances against St Mirren because they were lacking efficiency in their play.

What about Ian Murray's tactic of pulling everyone back into the box to defend corners? That used to drive me mad but I presumed he used it for us because we were up against threatening full time opponents. To use it at home against part time opponents is baffling.

Surely a quick breakaway from defending a corner provides a great opportunity to create a goal scoring chance, particularly against teams which may lack pace?

Errr, we won the game mate! Maybe you should take your pictures of Steven Craig somewhere private and have a good time to yourself, and stop raining on our parade.

Hope this works, WULLIE's Free Kick

You're some guy! Here's hoping you've got plenty more posts like this to come :)

That's a bit weird.

It's ok though. I'll console myself with 6 points from 2 games against 2 of the biggest teams in the division and watching my team play some of the best stuff we have for years. I'll no' bother with this 'creating chances' nonsense.

Dumbarton won did they? Thanks for clearing that one up 'mate'. I'm raining on no parade. I'm simply a neutral putting across my opinion on the game. I was disappointed to see a quality player like Steven Craig receive virtually no service today, and think there are a couple of areas Dumbarton could be improving on.

Thank f**k he wasn't on the bench or you'd have had your shoe laces taken off you.

It's evident that a fair chunk of luck played a part in Dumbarton's victory over St Mirren today, in what was a poor match. You're clearly a bit too optimistic for your own good if you can't accept your side could be improving in some areas.

Any grown man who is a fanboy for a lower league Scottish footballer is a bit weird, aye.

He's been given the benefit of the doubt long enough. He's not good enough for St. Mirren, he's not good enough for any Championship side at all. As mentioned, his first touch is so bad that it's 4 yards in front of him. The difference in how cutting we were at least trying to be was clear when Thompson came on. The ball stuck to him and he opened up play ahead of him a few times, Gallagher at least looked like he had a partner up front.

An out if form, over the hill Thommo should always start ahead of Gow. At one stage in the first half he picked up a pass inside Dumbarton's box and laid it off only to make a run out the box towards the corner flag as the player in possession headed for the bye line leaving no one in the middle. Murray needs to get a grip and quickly or the season will be over before we know it bar a relegation battle.
