St. Mirren vs Dumbarton

Recommended Posts

How Alan gow got a deal is beyond me. He's a lazy b*****d. I'll be surprised to see him net double figures.

His highest league return was 10 in a season and that was a decade ago for Falkirk. There's absoultely no chance he'll get double figures....in fact he'll be closer to 1 than 10 by the end of the season.

Don't think he's scored a league goal in a few years. Be lucky if he makes more than 10 appearances never mind scoring a goal.

Thinking back to yesterday it was a great disciplined display by Dumbarton. Very well organised, let us fanny about with the ball in areas that weren't hurting them. The ref gave us fouls in the middle of the park because there were constant niggly fouls on Agnew to stop us getting into a rhythm and it worked.

I'm disappointed we didn't test Brown more. He flapped at a few balls, got away with a blunder when the ref gave a soft foul against Thommo. Both keepers didn't have a save to make. Our deliveries weren't good enough, Morgan put 3-4 cracking balls in and Gallagher probably should have scored. Obviously hard to tell but if that goes in I think we'd have went on to win the game but the lesson is you can't just play good for 10-15 minutes and expect to take any points against any team in this league.

Was hardly a soft foul on brown, thompson smashed into him. Noticed agnew having a few efforts to put niggly challenges in at us, shat it from fleming twice I noticed though.

Would need to see it again but I thought it was soft. 9/10 the ref will give a foul on the keeper in situations like that.

Just as well Goodwin didn't come on,he isn't niggly :D. We were crying out for him to come on and give us a bit of steel in midfield. Carswell looks tidy but not dirty enough for my liking.

Got the impression there was no love lost there.

Anyway, that was the first time I'd seen us this year and the difference was night and day from the turgid displays of last season. Side looks balanced and well drilled. Defence looks solid, plenty of graft in midfield and Gaz had one of his best games in a sons shirt.

Not getting carried away and I would still view it as 6 points gained to protect it us from the drop but the future bodes well.

We pumped them, absolutely pumped!

Not wanting to be disrespectful to the other teams in the league, but I reckon we will probably have the league wrapped up before Hearts did; unless big teams from the league above, or England, bid big for the spine of the team in January.

From watching the premier league last season, I didn't see much between yourselves and teams like Killie. Certainly looked fit enough, tactically sound. Reckon you'll have a good season. Will predict 5th/6th

While I admire the sentiment if we finish that high it would be the greatest achievement in my lifetime of the dumbarton. Realistically though 8th has to be the aim. As someone mentioned earlier, these 6 points are bonus points. Its the games against Alloa,Morton and Livingston that will see us safe all going well.

Where are folk seeing the post match comments from Muzz? Can't find them anywhere.

I always felt he was a bit deluded at times, games where we would get pumped he'd say 'there wasn't much in it' or the likes. For him to claim that St Mirren dominated yesterday and that the result against Rangers was 'unfair' is making him sound more deluded than I thought. St Mirren had 2% more possession with the exact same number of shots on goal as us, wits he on about!?

Watching St Mirren yesterday was like watching us last season. Narrow, negative and but for a wonder strike from Aggy never really looking like scoring. I still think the appointment of Spalding will come back to bite Murray in the arse. It's totally bizarre how his style has changed since the season we finished 5th, we were playing some unbelievable stuff that year.

I'm surprised you thought we were narrow and negative. I felt it was the absolute opposite where we were too open and we're throwing players forward unnecessarily which made us too vulnerable to the counterattack.

To be honest, I think we showed Dumbarton far too little respect, which is very disappointing. You guys were everything we weren't, disciplined, organised and clever in possession.

Is it a penalty but.

Cawley was smart getting in front of the right back, he bundles him over, it's a penalty. I'm assuming you don't think it was.

Check the reaction of St mirren players, not one complaint, think that says it all.

Brown had two hands on the ball and gestured to the ref to state that fact, but Thomson took him right out, how can you say it was soft? I did notice aggy shat it a few times, and screaming for every free kick, don't remember him moaning as much in a son's top

Have you seen a replay of this? I was right in front of it and from what I saw to call the decision soft is being kind, I thought it was just wrong. Looked like Brown was the one who jumped into Thompson and made an arse of the catch, though I could be wrong? Thompson was certainly raging, and the ref couldn't get away from him quick enough.

Thompson didn't even connect with ball, brown had 2 hands on it and was taken out. Gibson was booked early on for dissent at the linesman but that big fanny goes nuts and gets away with it.

I'm one of those 'older supporters' (though I don't look it as I'm wearing well :-p ) but believe me, this start is just as enjoyable.

Beating Hibs and St Mirren and sitting joint top of the Championship, even if it is only 2 games in, is brilliant.

Its even enjoyable from my view also , don't get me wrong I hate seeing Saints getting beat however to see Dumbarton

(beat the so called big teams ) in the first 2 league games is good , football romance and all that.

I think Thompson is clearly going for the ball there, but aye, they always go to the goalie. Obviously had my black and white specs on.

From a Saints perspective it looked like Dumbarton players were going for Agnew early on it the game..

There was one two-footed studs up challenge on him in the first 5 minutes. Sons player got the ball, but Goodwin would have been sent off for that challenge, ball first or not.

Haven't seen Agnew enough to know whether it affected him or not, but I don't think there's any doubt the Sons players were giving him some special attention.
