Arthur's Seat
For those that work shifts, do the pros outweigh the cons? Do some folk prefer working different days every week, including weekend working, as opposed to 9-5 Monday-Friday or is it a total pain?
TheScarf
Having done both I can confirm that 9-5 Mon-Fri is the absolute #boi. Great having a routine that your body can stick to. Can have my meals at the same times every day, and can get a good workout in at night. Lovely stuff.
Deeboy
I prefer it. I can get appointments etc without having to take time off. The downside is I miss the football etc.

mjw
Backshift /nightshift when everyone else is away home is the best time to be in our place. Catching up on some reading and getting paid is ideal.
smpar
I don't mind it. As I'm working and studying, my work has to fit around my uni timetable, so I have something resembling a routine. I've never done 9-5, but I reckon I'd enjoy that more. Doing 1pm-10pm one day, followed by 8am-4pm, followed by 1pm-10pm can be a bit shit. ScottR96
I work back shift and it's horrible. I'd love a day shift. The occasional 9-5 I do for training or overtime is fantastic. Doesn't even feel as if I've worked because I'm finished at a reasonable time.
johnnynivenEC
Used to do constant nights in asda working what was meant to be 3 on two off, two one three off, but it ended up being hellish, trying to get overtime for extra cash meant I wasn't on any fixed shift pattern, that added to the fact that it was nightshift and asda is a shithole... meant I hated it, and I doubt i'd go back to nights. Got myself a cushty wee job in June after two and a half years in asda, working with the civil service and i'm on a shift pattern with two 9-5s a seven o clock finish and two 8 o clock finishes, plus amazing holiday entitlement and flexitime. Don't know if i could stick to the whole 9-5, I love my long lies when I get them through the week!

Bobby Skidmarks
Work Dayshift and Nightshifts. Just off the back of 5 days of 23:00 -07:00. Have the next 3 off then it's 4 days of 08:00 - 15:00. I get a roster premium of 25% on top of my salary for working unsociable hours. Which is nice of them. effeffsee_the2nd
Shifts for me, been at it 9 years now, the odd time I've had to do 9-5 you feel like your never away from the fuckin place. No time to do anything either, saying that I'm getting a bit fed up of nights, if I could do my pattern but just all days that would be fine. No gong happen so just need to put up win it. Money and time off are too good to chuck
Ross.
Mon - Fri 8-4 Jobs are better Generally speaking, 8-6 over here. Took a bit of getting used to but when I seen how much they would pay me I was happy to put up with the extra few hours per week.
Dazzle
I work day/night/back and it's okay, get a healthy pay from it and being in work during the night is just a skive. I do live on 4/5 hours sleep on days and nights which is horrible because your always tired and can never be arsed doing anything.
Adam
Used to work 9-9 four days a week in my younger years after leaving school. Hellish. Work a constant 9-5 now, could never go back to shift work.
Granny Danger
Many, many years ago I worked shifts in the Michelin. Day, evening and night rotating weekly. Day was 5 days plus Saturday morning and night was 6 nights starting Sunday so you never got a full weekend off. It was crap but in those days Michelin was really well paid in comparison to any other factory job in Dundee. For the last 20 years I have had my own business but that occasionally includes evening work whilst still going in before 8 in the morning so it can be a bind but certainly far better than shift work.
