And does it really matter these days? Dad was a sparky, Mum was a medical receptionist. Working class? I'm only educated to HNC level. Working class? Work as a Draughtsman. Working/middle class? (but am also a company director - middle class) My wife goes to book club. My bairn is learning the violin. Definitely middle class. And I do like hummus. And taramasalata. And tzatziki. Not sure if the spelling is right there so maybe I've just got middle class pretensions. A bookies isn't a book club, it's a betting shop. HTH.

Doubt she's ever been in a bookies in her life. And nobody goes into bookies these days do they? That's what God invented apps for.
Fullerene
I knew someone who thought working class meant that if you went to a shop and ordered a baked potato then you would have it with butter and grated cheese. Any other filling meant you were a toff.
O'Kelly Isley III
Nope. Inventor, AutoCAD, Solidworks. Does that mean I'm a pleb?Yes, but you're knocking at the door, parametrically-speaking.

UsedToGoToCentralPark
Voter suppression Bill to be included in Queen's speech.Rubbish, everyone will be entitled to free id to be able to vote. It's to stop electoral fraud.
welshbairn
You have to be on the Electoral Register to get a vote anyway, not sure how this would scare people off voting. They could always just say you have to take your voting card with you, rather than asking for other ID. The bulk of any fraud that happens will be by postal voting which would be unaffected, so not sure of the purpose. How much electoral fraud goes on in GB? The requrement to produce ID cards in NI was a response to a specific problem with personation. Have we experienced a similar spike in GB? This is all about disenfranchising the poor.

Detournement
Organising polling station fraud under our system is a complete non starter. The effort required to gain even 50 fraudulent votes would be better spent chapping doors and taxiing voters to the polls. The risk isn't worth it either as the chances of the fraud influencing the election are very small.
DeeTillEhDeh
It's another from the Republican play book. https://newrepublic.com/article/151966/gops-sneakiest-voter-suppression-tactic The next logical step would be moving polling stations out of poorer areas into richer areas miles away - and specifically not on any public transport route.

Mum bought them because we were skint because dad fucked off, which is pretty underclass. On the other hand I'm an IT engineer that retired at 55, so that's very fucking middle class.

Suspect Device
As for the voting changes. I had a quick check to see if this was a massive problem in the UK. Quote In 2018, there was no evidence of large-scale electoral fraud. Of the 266 cases that were investigated by the police, one led to a conviction, and two suspects accepted police cautions. In 2017, there was one conviction and eight suspects accepted police cautions. https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/who-we-are-and-what-we-do/our-views-and-research/our-research/electoral-fraud-data
