diamond_for_life
Sorry to ask but I seen a few guys talking about the Alien films as I read through the Alien Isolation game thread. It was a great game and I loved the story behind so it got me wanting to see the films (I haven't seen more than 10-15 mins of any of them). I decided to purchase the Alien/Predator Total Destruction boxset and started watching Alien today. Few questions popped up that I was hoping you guys may know the answer to. What was the Alien that crashed on LV-426 and do we know why it crashed. (I am assuming the alien popping out of its chest lol) but i mean is there any backstory to what happened ? Do we then know if it was a queen or how the eggs all got on the crashed ship? Lastly do we know the origin of the Alien or the then like where it came from and how it thrives ? Any help would be great guys. Cheers.

They were created to be a weapon by the engineers. To be fair this was only recently explained in Prometheus, the Alien prequel. Prometheus 2 will be out next year. Until Prometheus, you just had to guess (which was part of what made Alien so good). It's never explained how it crashed; presumably because it had an alien trying to burst out of it's chest. I expect the Prometheus series will end with this ship crashing.

KnightswoodBear
Watch the 3 Alien films (and Resurrection, if you must) ignore the AvP films as they are a load of horseshit. Prometheus is pish as well tbh

KnightswoodBear
Lol cheers mate will do If your boxset has the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 as an extra, watch that instead of the theatrical cut.
DA Baracus
Knightswood is correct that you should watch 1-3. Resurrection isn't terrible but is in no way required viewing. It's adds nothing (except giving me nightmares about the human/alien hybrid that gets sucks out of the hole in the ship when they're entering Earth's atmosphere when I was younger. Both AvP films are indeed shite (the second one is one of the worst films I've ever seen), although I do find the first one watchable. I quite like Prometheus though. It has it's faults (especially The shite about Weyland still being alive and Charlize Theron not realising that she just needs to run to the side instead of straight ahead ) but it has a good cast (mostly) and the backstory of the engineers and the aliens is interesting. I'd love to see an Alien film set on Earth similar to the books (especially the one where the guy at the Olympics takes some of the royal jelly the aliens produce and annihilates the 100m record only to run in to a wall and just explode). 54_and_counting
im sure i posted this elsewhere, but ever there was an example of when to leave things the f**k alone it is after aliens, alien 3 was an absolute clusterfuck that is only redeemed because it in a way ends the saga (except when they wanted more money and created the abomination that was resurrection) alien and aliens are two of the best films you will watch, especially in the sci-fi genre, all opinion above are my opinion
killienick
KnighstwoodBear is spot on. Assembly cut of Alien 3 is excellent. It's a much maligned film, (unfairly IMO). Alien Resurrection is an abomination of a film and if I ever meet Jean Pierre Jeunet, I plan to boot him in the pie. Alien is one of the best films of all time in my opinion. Whilst I didn't think Prometheus was too bad, (it was a solid sci-fi film but a poor Alien film), the thing that still bugs me about it is giving the Space Jockey, (the fan name for the alien creature on LV-426), a back story. The mystery was the best thing about it. Prometheus does answer most of your questions, (kind of), though.
diamond_for_life
Im back again with one more question (sorry) At the end in the spacecraft was the Alien supposed to be sleeping ? Why wouldn't it of attacked Ripley

The studio hired him because they thought he could make something beautifully horrible and creepy then proceeded to mangle and interfere all the way. He's since refused to work in such an environment again and stuck to making the excellent stuff he got his name for. Whether his vision would gave fit well with the rest if the canon is certainly debatable, but at least if he'd been left alone we might have got a decent steampunk/cyberpunk addition to the series. Alien 3 was disappointing at the time, but has aged well. Agree 100% on which version to watch.
Dindeleux
What was the Alien that crashed on LV-426 and do we know why it crashed. So I've only seen the first Alien film but what? Was that in the first one?
dogmc
Might be a memory fubar but in the first avp film were they nit trying to suggest that the predators engineered the xenomorph for training their young warriors? Is it a blatant contradiction of the prometheus narrative or something else eg the predators are evolved from the engineers or simply acquired them from the engineers? ? HeWhoWalksBehindTheRows
Always liked 3 and got the cvnt ripped out of me for it. Think I like it cause it was the one that was released when I was a kid and it has so many quotable lines, the fat english guy from American Werewolve in London's one being the favorite "This is rumor control, here are the facts!" D.A.F.C
Alien is superb, they should have left it there. Aliens is ok but it's an action film that lacks any depth.
Jack Burton
Im back again with one more question (sorry) At the end in the spacecraft was the Alien supposed to be sleeping ? Why wouldn't it of attacked Ripley Couple of fan suggestions are that the Alien was coming to the end of its life cycle, was dying and as such slowing down. Other is that it knew it had Ripley cornered and was just taking the piss, the same way that it did with Lambert.

They don't suggest the predators engineered the aliens but that they capture a queen alien and use humans as hosts to create aliens. A couple of young predators are then dropped in the pyramid with the aliens as a test of their skills. There is AVP book called Prey which I read years ago which would have made a much better film than the shite they served up.

Ira Gaines
Aliens is sensational. It's still not as good as Alien for me though, which is pretty much a lesson in pure tension building.
