Girvan v Hurlford

Junior Jock

Attended the West Cup game today and as a neutral observer Hurlford on today's showing will need to up their game for the visit of Talbot in the Scottish. The playing surface was in poor condition but was the same for both teams and it made it a leveller but I thought the referee had a shocking game. It was a typical physical junior game with tackles flying in but the referee continued to issue yellow cards but seemed to he a bit unfair with Girvan receiving the majority of the bookings. They had 2 players sent off with probably the first player merited with 2 bookings and the second sending off being the last man but Hurlford gave out some tasty tackles as well without receiving the same punishment. Hurlford had probably enough in their locker to beat Girvan but remembering there are 2 leagues of a difference and the 1st sending off made it an uphill battle for Girvan. The referee spoke to a player not far from where I was standing and was very arrogant and like most referees seem to love being the centre of attention and makes you think they are being encouraged by their supervisors to be arrogant. Girvan will be encouraged by their workrate and application in this game with a much lower budget than Hurlford but again for me as a neutral the referee wasted a hard physical game which junior football is associated with.

I must have been watching a different game. As girvan were more interested in booting taz up n dwn the park than the white round thing they are meant to kick. As for the ref i have seen worse girvan players never helped their selves with the way they moaned at every free kick conceded. Respect has to work both ways players must respect the ref as much as he should respect the players.

Obviously the Hurlford guys don't like the comments made but if you look at them I said the referee wasted the game and didn't let the game flow with the bookings. More interested in being the centre of attention but it's not a criticism of the both teams what I saw as a neutral at the game. Let the game flow which didn't happen because of the referee but obviously some Hurlford guys won't let people have a view without getting touchy.

Worst performance from an official i have seen all season purely based on the fact he wasnt consistent, booked about 7 girvan players, yet similar fouls from hurlford players including a rugby tackle from behind resulted in not even a talking to, hurlford players were just as bad at asking ref for fouls etc wasnt a great game but spoiled by a an official

U must have had some really good refs if thats the worst you have seen. Game was poor but that was more dwn to the teams and pitch rather than the ref

My Girvan friend told me there wasn't any linesman so the ref didn't have any help from the side. The question has to be asked why a west cup tie had no linesman?

I would agree all cup games should have linesmen no matter what league/district teams r in

Hurlford are not as good as they were 2 seasons ago. Ref had a shocking game. Soft 2nd yellow card for 1st sending off considering what Hurlford were doing and I think the ref got the 2nd red wrong as the player clearly made a good tackle taking the ball. Yes it was last ditch and went back to the keeper. I guess the refs rule was that you can't tackle in the box!! Don't have a problem with Hurlford but I do with the ref... Taz body checked a girvan player as he was running last him yet Hurlford got the free kick. Good luck to Hurlford in the next round

For where i was standing it looked like a pen but i was at the far end of the stand. Even if he did get the ball you always run the risk with last ditch tackles in the box

Was never a pen but you are correct, you always run the risk and it was certainly last ditch. As for cammy, someone with his experience should know better. I would have like to have seen the young lad Nesbitt get on to have a look at him.
