RICKY ROUGHAN R.I.P.

Recommended Posts

Hearing that Partick Thistle Football Club kit man Ricky Roughan has sadly passed away

following a short illness, aged 65.

For anyone who knew or did not know this lovely man, he will go down as one of the true

non-playing legends at Firhill.

Together with his good pal behind the scenes at Thistle, Chico, who is also no longer with us,

the pair could have written the A to Z book on wind-ups and practical jokes-  all of which were

received by everyone ( including myself) in the best of spirits.

I can still see Ricky and Chico putting on a fantastic double act, impersonating John Lambie and

Gerry Collins, in the home dressing, and going around every single player with quips and

hard-hitting one-liners. Nobody escaped their attention to detail, and there was even more laughter

when Ricky turned his attention to the tactics board!

Fortunately, that scene was part of the Club's Championship-winning season, and featured in the

Jags' video.

Great club servants are hard to find, but Ricky and Chico were in that category.

My thoughts are with Mr Roughan's family and friends at this time.

Sad news. I remember the pair of them featuring prominently in the "Grasping The Thistle" documentary back in 2002.

As you say - he along with his mate Chico, were Thistle legends.
