Mr Rational
Carwyn Jones and Leanne Wood have tied the vote on becoming the assembly leader 29-29. Leanne was voted for by Tory and UKIP, I'm sure she won't go anywhere near a coalition though, it goes against the grain as much as it would up here. Labour would be best going into a minority administration then and arguing policy by policy. Thoughts?
Peppino Impastato
None, except did they vote no to tax raising powers? ? If so my respect for them has dropped even further
Sooky
That bloody one Lib Dem AM ruining the absolute scenes had the FM come from the 2nd party. Actually a bit unfortunate for Plaid, as they'll be painted of aligning with UKIP and the Tories, even though I'm sure they never actually asked them to vote for Leanne Wood. Bishop Briggs
Could there be a non-Labour rainbow coalition? Imagine the scenes!

Mr Rational
The others voting for Leanne is political mischief, nothing more. PC are obviously going to vote for their leader, the rest are just at it. Saying that, it will be a good reminder to labour that they will have to learn to compromise... DrewDon
Have Plaid explicitly claimed that they haven't made a pact with the Tories and/or UKIP, or is it all merely speculation at the moment? UKIP sources are claiming that they held talks with "other parties". I notice that even Neil Hamilton voted for Leanne Wood.
Ad Lib
It's blatantly clear that the Tories and UKIP just wanted to give Labour a bit of a bloody nose and see if they could decapitate Carwyn Jones. There's not a cat's chance in hell that a Plaid-led minority government could rule with one fifth of the seats, and Leanne Woods knows that just as much as anyone else. The thing is, even if Labour wants to govern as a minority they need to win the First Minister vote. I doubt the Tories or UKIP would be rewarded by the electorate if they forced a second election for the sake of giving Labour a bloody nose. Mr Rational
Now that *actually* is "verge of tears". Now I know that losing Scotland is bad for labour, but imagine Labour losing Wales.... Jones will be shitting himself just now. And as we have both said, it's just political mischief and bugger all else.
Bishop Briggs
Statement by Plaid Cymru group in the Assembly Posted at15:34 On May 5th, Wales chose not to elect one single party to govern Wales with a majority. As is the convention, the biggest party were given an opportunity to reach an agreement on forming a government which could lead Wales with the support of the majority of members in the National Assembly. They took the decision not to pursue that option, and were not prepared to give the process of negotiation any further time. As a result, the Plaid Cymru group followed normal Parliamentary protocol and nominated Leanne Wood for First Minister. Carwyn Jones was informed of this decision yesterday. Since that time, and as far as Plaid Cymru is aware, there have been no formal discussions, agreements or deals pursued between any party. This afternoon, the Assembly failed to reach agreement on who should become First Minister and form the next government. It is now for the parties to discuss this matter further in order to seek the best outcome for Wales.
