CLYDE FC season 16/17 Thread

Im more worried about Lowden's injury. Big loss going foward. Presume linton would drop back into his natural position. This season was always going to be risky with size of squad but losing lowden so early in season right bad luck and makes any other injury or suspension unthinkable

Linton obvious replacement at left back we need to win tommorow to get momentum back been playing really well but all about results

Small squad lot of quality but lacking in depth

Still think we will be in the shake up at the end of the season

I'd be interested in others opinion of what's wrong with our defending?
Is it personnel, the way we set up, a combination of both or maybe something else?
I think the centre halves are a problem as well as the full backs being very offensive. Maybe leaking goals is a price worth paying for an attacking, entertaining team.

IMO that's symptomatic of a problem across the game, the art of defending disappearing over the past 20 years

Take Graham's Arsenal. A well drilled back 4 with a dominant centre half, the other 3 taking their lead from him. All 4 were there to defend

Result of that being they'd no need for a holding midfielder, or even two. A holding midfielder is an admission you don't trust your defence.  That must be due to poor coaching over that time, but the result is where managers feel they have to sacrifice a creative midfielder, they try to compensate by creating these wingback positions. So one problem creates another,  more crosses come into the box being dealt with by weak centre halfs

The young lad Lowdon said in his recent interview his main game was getting forward.  So it's not necessarily just a problem for Clyde, but where the manager is clearly adopting a principle of wingback instead of fullbacks, you have to be rock solid in the middle. Probably a 3 instead of 2 and definitely with a commanding figure in there to organise

So in our case with the personnel we have and the system he wants to play, he'll either have to put in a lot of work in training and hope someone steps up to be "the man" , or he'll need to get someone in

Needing to score 4 at home to guarantee a win, especially in this league, isn't a great sign though he's acknowledged that. Goals don't necessarily equate to entertaining, there'll be  20 - 18 happenin in your local park with the jackets down!

But he's got some thinking to do HD, that's pretty clear

Think pushing the full backs on was always going to leave gaps. Thought we were a bit better when smith went into the middle.

Also thought Cowdenbeath were throwing bodies forward from midfield most of the first half and we weren't always tracking back.
