Motherwell FC - A Thread For All Seasons

Recommended Posts

Rumours are that the Hastie deal to Rangers is now off as he would rather not move to another Scottish club. If he leaves going down south looks like the most likely option now. Gorrin rumour is also apparently not true!!

Cracking news if both players end up staying at Fir Park!!

The twitter updates of the 20s/reserves have been nowhere near as detailed recently. I take it that was Lewis Irons job when he was still here?

It's been changed up a little mate, kinda in similar fashion to the women's in-game Tweets.

Believe the reasons for that was due to  play-by-play updates not bringing much in the way of engagement.

Hopefully someone has managed to make the laddie see sense. 'Bloopoonditis' has been the deathknell of too many promising careers.

It's live again. From the pen of the esteemed Chris 'Union' Jack.

RANGERS have pulled out of the running to sign Jake Hastie after becoming frustrated in their pursuit of the Motherwell forward.

The Light Blues made a move to sign the 20-year-old on a pre-contract deal last month and had agreed a switch to bring the highly-rated wide man to Ibrox at the end of the season.

But Herald Sport understands Rangers will now pursue other options this summer after ending their interest in Hastie as the transfer has dragged on in recent weeks.

Boss Steven Gerrard has not given up hope of retaining the services of Ryan Kent, while a move for Greg Stewart, currently on loan at Aberdeeen, is also under consideration.

Hastie has been attracting interest from several English clubs, including Crystal Palace and Brentford, and also has options in America as he considers his next move.

The winger has quickly risen to prominence since returning from a loan spell at Alloa and Motherwell put a new contract on the table in an attempt to keep him at Fir Park.

The Steelmen are resigned to losing one of their brightest young talents but Hastie, who has scored six goals in the second half of the season, is now unlikely to join the Gers despite seeming set for an Ibrox deal.

TBF, the evening times were reporting someone died at the weekend without a source, so probably not the paper I'd be reading.

I thought that as well and it's surely no coincidence that we play them on Sunday and also they have 3 players suspended for assaulting a fellow pro on the park so running a story like this is a wee bit of noise to deflect away from that.  It's got all the hallmarks of their usual patter.

Having said that, it's supposedly been a "done deal" for ages so if, as appears to be the case, he's not actually signed by now then it suggests he's not that fussed and it's just an option on the table for him. I can see why Rangers would take the huff if they've finally clocked that they're being used to leverage other deals (if that's what's happened) and presumably given the number of 'leaks' about him signing they've felt the need to put it out there that they're the ones who have ended the interest. Right.

In fairness why shouldn't he consider his options, he's free to speak to anyone he wants at the moment. If he fancies a shot in England or MLS then fair fucks.

If this is how it's gone down then the fact his agent has been willing to park an offer from Rangers on the table and exploit it for better offers from other clubs puts into context this idea that he'd have signed if we'd offered him an extra £200 a week or whatever at the start of the season. I'm guessing the advice he was getting was not to sign anything and see where things stood in January.

Presumably if he goes to MLS (Atlanta United is being mentioned) we'll get pied for the development money we'd otherwise be due? Hearts didn't receive anything when Sam Nicholson moved to Minnesota United. I guess there's some loophole involved. It's worth mentioning that Nicholson ended up on $235k basic when he went over there (their transparency with salaries means all that stuff is public knowledge).

Atlanta's current roster salaries are here.

At this point it's really just a massive shrug whether he stays or goes. He clearly a talented boy but he's definitely struggling now teams are putting 2 or 3 men on him. Seems to be the difference between him and Turnbull there in that you couldn't get a touch of a beach ball in a phone box with David Turnbull.

If it's anything like $235k a year on offer I would honestly not be surprised if he goes. That's MENTAL money for a boy who's played a handful of games.

The poster who said Hastie is the new Ross Forbes looks to have nailed it.  Remember folk on SO were saying Forbes would play for Scotland one day?  Lolz!

Hastie should be going to wherever the money is.  If he can get himself a deal in the MLS that's worth over $200k a year, he owes his agent a gammy.  He's had a purple patch in his first 10 games of his Premiership career and looks to get a lucrative move on the back of it.  All the best to him.

You can definitely see why the MLS is an attractive proposition, if that money is being flung about then ever more so. The lifestyle, the opportunity to travel america and play in some incredible stadiums, atlantas being one. playing in front of 50,000 plus fans most weeks in a league that is definitely on the rise. young players are being recognised as well, Jack Marriot going to man city, Miguel Almiron to Newcastle and there was another guy signed for Bayern Munich. 2-3 years ago development wise it would have been a bad move, not so much now.

Every time I see the MLS the guys in it look just other worldly levels of fitness. I canny imagine what 12 months for him in that will do to his body, they'll need to be lashing water cannons on the sidelines to put out the fire behind him.
