DA Baracus Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 What I mean is, who believes the pish that politicians spout about anything? I've been hearing folk say they were 'duped' by the EU leave campaign as over claims such as the £350M a week to the NHS bollocks. I've heard people say they feel 'betrayed' over 'The Vow' after the Independence Referendum. And so on. But who actually believes such shite? I didn't realise there were so many folk who are so stupid as to believe that proven and consistent liars tell the truth. These are probably the same people who believe the shite tabloids dribble. Is the UK truly a nation of gibbering dunces, thundering cretins, slobbering morons?
Fide Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Is the UK truly a nation of gibbering dunces, thundering cretins, slobbering morons? Never underestimate the roaring stupidity of large swathes of the Great British public.
Wee Willie Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 In reply go your final question. Yes Never underestimate the roaring stupidity of large swathes of the Great British public.
Sarto Mutiny Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 It's confirmation bias. People will believe whatever they want to believe, no matter how shaky their logic might be.
Bishop Briggs Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Some people still believe the pish that Scotland, whilst part of the UK, can be a EU Member State post Brexit.
BFTD Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Some folk believe they weren't kicked up the arse, despite all evidence to the contrary.
Antlion Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Some people still believe the pish that Scotland, whilst part of the UK, can be a EU Member State post Brexit. Although Sturgeon has to investigate that, surely only the followers of Dugdale and Rennie are seriously praying it can happen?
supermik Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 7 days straight now that Sturgeon has been having an orgasm and no sign of it stopping anytime soon.
Antlion Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 7 days straight now that Sturgeon has been having an orgasm and no sign of it stopping anytime soon. Sturgeon, I suspect, originally planned the approach to independence being a long game. Events have overtaken that. The unexpected (by everyone) Brexit vote has given her an opportunity that will potentially never be bettered by any amount of baby steps and competent governance of devolved matters.
paranoid android Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Any examples of politician actually following up on promises made?
BFTD Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Any examples of politician actually following up on promises made? Didn't Chancellor Palpatine promise to unite the galaxy behind him, or something? Also, that other bloke in Germany.

It's just been a very effective stick for the nationalist side to beat the Better Together camp with. I imagine the Tories were furious at Brown and the Record for printing it.

Granny Danger Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Some people still believe the pish that Scotland, whilst part of the UK, can be a EU Member State post Brexit. Really? I can't think of anyone who believes that.
Bishop Briggs Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Although Sturgeon has to investigate that, surely only the followers of Dugdale and Rennie are seriously praying it can happen? Sturgeon should be more realistic and decide what she wants post Brexit. Playing gesture politics in Brussels is a waste of time and undermines her credibility. Tusk snubbed her and the Spanish were clear and very vocal in their opposition. Sturgeon wants to remain in the Single Market so she should making the case for joining the EEA. That would give her a chance to take on Gove and, possibly, the other Tory leadership contenders over the next few weeks. Sturgeon could then claim to be the Leader of the real Opposition whilst Labour tears itself apart. Really? I can't think of anyone who believes that. sureiknow Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Everyone knew that the £350 million was not correct. Though what I think caused a crucial influence in the vote was the Project Fear. Was seriously over the top. WW3? Bollocks
Antlion Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Who believes the pish that PMs who have been born in Scotland, despite being uber-BritNats whose job is to put the UK first, are somehow evidence that Scotland's national interests are well-served by remaining in the UK? It's like saying Austria's national interests must have been well served and recognised by the Fuhrer because Hitler* was born there. * Already been invoked, so BB can dispense with the Godwin accusations.

All PMs who have been born in Scotland have been Leaders of Unionist parties. An independent Scotland was not considered even a remote possibility when they, even Blair and Brown, were in office. It's only now, after the referendum and the SNP's victories in Holyrood elections, that Scotland remaining in the UK is in question. The Labour Party, under Blair, did deliver devolution referendum and a Scottish Parliament. Surely SNP supporters would agree that Labour's devolution has served Scotland's national interest.
