SPFL Board Elections

Recommended Posts

After nominations closed SPFL has announced the candidates for election to its Board for the coming season.

http://spfl.co.uk/news/article/spfl-to-elect-new-board-at-agm/

Peter Lawell of Celtic, Ann Budge of Hearts and Ian Maxwell of Partick are the only people running for the 3 seats open to Premiership clubs so will effectively be elected unopposed.

Having resigned in protest at Dundee United's point deduction, Stephen Thompson has changed his mind and following their relegation is running for 1 of 2 Championship seats alongside Leanne Dempster of Hibs and Eric Drysdale of Raith Rovers.

Ken Ferguson of Brechin is the only person running for the 1 seat open to SPFL1 & SPFL2 clubs so will effectively be elected unopposed.

These 6 seats - comprising 3 Premiership, 2 Championship and 1 lower-levels - join Ralph Topping (Chairman) and Neil Doncaster (Chief Exec) in forming the SPFL Board.

So 6 seats are up for grabs - and only 7 people are standing. Only the Championship will have a contest and even there 2 of 3 will be elected. Is this an example of everything being worked out in advance behind closed doors? Lack of interest in running things? Or genuinely the best people and no-one else wanted to stand against them?

Lawwell on both spfl and SFA boards?  I know we joke aboot him running Scottish fitba but...

Thistle complain bitterly about the splf and they have someone on the board, he'll probably want ten home games against seb Coe.

Ann Budgie , will she shake things up and provide some common sense?

Two out of Steven Thompson, Drysdale and Dempsey ffs, hardly inspiring.

If budge gets on the board it will be a disaster. She's a complete c**t, already chucked out another patronising statement about wanting more family friendly sanitised atmospheres in Scottish football.

if you dont agree with how an organisation is run, then is joining the board and influencing the running of the organisation not the best way to invoke change?  and the thistle board weren't arguing for more games against the old firm, the argument was for parity with other clubs to maintain a level playing field.

Influencing?  If you're one voice against many....

Parity?  All this fuss over a new club .

Seven posts in the thread, none mentioning anything about 'a new club' and absolutely no one making a fuss.

What is it you see when you log on here?
Because it must be something different from everyone else.

Did Budge not hire Levein because she knows f**k all about football?  Will suit the board to a tee in that case.

However Leanne Dempster should be a good appointment for one of the Championship seats. Her team have settled in well there. ^_^

I would much prefer she concentrated on her position with the Scottish Cup holders tbh :thumsup2

Thompson the only one to miss out. Happy with that.
