Don't think you can blame Trump for that.  He said in his post-election interview with 60 minutes that people shouldn't be doing that sort of thing.

Just because he ran the most hate-filled campaign ever that encouraged and sought to legitimise bigotry and promote division it's unfair to blame him for acts like this.  Anyway I can't see him accepting the blame for anything over the coming four years.

See this thing about "Post Truth" politics? Does that mean we lived through an age of politicians telling the truth? Did I imagine a British Labour PM lying to his party, lying to Parliament and lying to the public to take us into an illegal war and killing hundreds of thousands of people?

I think we can all point to specific incidents where politicians have lied in the past.  Some of these lies have been significant ones with huge consequences.

I think the whole post truth thing is different.  I'm sure there will be different interpretations by different folk but I see it as distortion of the truth as the norm rather than the exception and as facts being largely ignored if they don't fit the narrative.

One of the problems with the 'anti-elitism' agenda is that for some it's really an attack on informed opinion by those promoting uninformed opinion.  I wonder how many folk in the American election were bothered about the veracity of Trumps statements; so long as the bullshit he was peddling justified their prejudices then that was all that mattered.

Trump wants to quit the TTP.

At least he is sticking to his guns, so far.

You can't fault him for that. It'll be a busy first day in office for him ending an international trade agreement while he's at the border with a cement mixer cataloguing all the Muslims in the country.

Just so we're clear, it seems that since the election these events are just as likely to be the work of leftists who fantasize about what right wingers believe. I've never met a Nazi in my whole life. Maybe they are all over Scotland and that's why you all seem so concerned about them, but they are pretty rare over here. And even if Trump folks started murdering people, we're starting about a dozen political murders behind Black Lives Matter. It looks like another cop was executed in San Antonio yesterday.

Kris Kobach, who is looking like a top pick for head of Homeland Security was photographed entering a meeting with Trump. The cover page of his notes were partially visible in the photograph. Included on the front page was a plan to reduce Syrian refugees to zero and extreme vetting regarding support for Sharia law for immigrants from Muslim countries (this would have kept out the father of the Orlando shooter and the San Bernadino shooter if implemented in the past). Partially obscured were notes about the border wall and a reference to voter rolls. Hopefully that means they will be targeting deportations towards those who voted illegally.

Trump was right. Our side is actually going to do so much winning that we are going to get tired of winning.

Donald Trump’s media summit was a ‘f—ing firing squad’

Donald Trump scolded media big shots during an off-the-record Trump Tower sitdown on Monday, sources told The Post.

“It was like a f–ing firing squad,” one source said of the encounter.

“Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said ‘I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,’ ” the source said.

“The meeting was a total disaster. The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing down,” the source added.

A second source confirmed the fireworks.

“The meeting took place in a big board room and there were about 30 or 40 people, including the big news anchors from all the networks,” the other source said.

“Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars. He called out Jeff Zucker by name and said everyone at CNN was a liar, and CNN was [a] network of liars,” the source said.

“Trump didn’t say [NBC reporter] Katy Tur by name, but talked about an NBC female correspondent who got it wrong, then he referred to a horrible network correspondent who cried when Hillary lost who hosted a debate – which was Martha Raddatz who was also in the room.”

The stunned reporters tried to get a word in edgewise to discuss access to a Trump Administration.

I've had to stop watching the mainstream US news. CNN and MSNBC are like a chat shows now.
The media's Nazi agenda hasn't hurt Trump so they've moved onto slinging mud about potential business conflicts that he could have with foreign governments. It's boring now. No one is buying it. Move onto real news like the North Dakota Access Pipeline or things Trump has actually done.

I've seen 2 instances of Nazi symbols. One guy had a swastika sticker on the back of his car, and I saw another guy with the SS logo on his motorcycle vest.
Neither look new though.

Yeah, just so we're clear, I assume Nazis are pretty few and far between on the ground in Scotland.

I was at a bar for a David Allan Coe concert and there were a bunch of bikers from the Outlaws gang. They were all rocking the SS lightening bolt logo. As a side note, it was really like Coe's song about his shows. It was bikers on one side, cowboys on another side, and punks (replacing hippies from the original song) in a little corner by themselves. My friend and I stuck to the cowboy side.

One time when my car battery died I asked the first guy I saw to help me jump it. He was wearing a wife beater and had 1488 tattooed below his neck.

I saw a desk with Nazi books/badges/etc for sale at a gun show once. I stopped and looked at the wears for a second.

Those are the only times I can think of where I've run into Nazis.

A bit disrespectful to the guy already in the job?

It goes way beyond that.

For the President Elect of the USA to be even referring to who should be filling the position of the Ambassadorship of a friendly nation and close ally is simply a further illustration of how far out of his depth this guy is.

Trump has absolutely no idea how to act and when to shut up, I think this will impact upon those he appoints to senior posts - only the most sycophantic and desperate will be able or willing to work with him, anyone else will either refuse a position or not be able to see it through.

If by this point he does not understand that tweeting about something like this is inappropriate then I am absolutely convinced that he is not going to change any time soon.  That is good news for those of us who want to see his massive deficiencies brought to the fore ASAP.

The Muslim thing is ludicrous. The TTP and other free trade deals however are horrible for American workers.

Binning it is a good thing.

It's not really a black and white issue.

The benefits of it is that it will bring quite a few countries under the US sphere of influence as an alternative to China. This matters a lot because no matter what you think of the US, human rights are brought to the negotiations and this is something that would otherwise be neglected by the China pact. We won't see huge change in that regard but any influence can be considered a good thing. Economically, China's share of the export market is getting bigger and bigger - this was meant to counter that and keep US domination. Tying these things together would be a considerable surveillance effort and the likelihood that the US will remain the dominant power.

Alternatively, the US worker does suffer as industries who employ lot's of people tend to be fucked over in exchange for the US seeking protection on other laws (i.e. movie copyright) which benefits very few domestic workers. Transparency is difficult just by the nature of these sort of deals so we don't have enough information to see what's going to really happen.

I kind of lean that this or something similar is going to have to happen to counter China whilst keeping our economic and diplomatic ties viable and not sinking the economy. Alternatively, simple arithmetic will ensure that the next generation of American's (and countries heavily tied like ours) will suffer much more than the short term job losses that may instantly result. I have nothing against China (apart from human rights abuses but I think that'll improve over time) but, right now, it's in our strategic interests for the US to maintain dominance over them in every capacity possible.

Facts have always been ignored if they don't fit the narrative, or massaged to make them look better, or misrepresented. We had a Labour government in this country (both UK and Scotland) who specialised in it, Bill Clinton and George Bush were extraordinary in their lies to the American people, etc. The reason we are now seeing "expert opinion" roundly ignored is as a result of that. These things go in cycles for a while, and people are fed up of expert opinion telling them what to think / do - and that's all over the Western world.

Scottish independence supporters do not believe a thing from the UK government or the UK media, regardless of how it's backed up. That isn't as a result of ignorance or a "post-truth" agenda, it's because they quite rightly see through the aims and agendas of those who are bringing the message to them. The same thing is happening the world over, just manifesting itself differently in other areas - Brexit, Trump, Le Pen. The only people to blame are the so-called "Liberals" or "elites" who have caused the situation with their own lies and policies. Alternative news media is set up (Breitbart, The National, etc) or an existing major outlet is used (Fox, The Daily Mail) and the people who question the "mainstream" opinion now have their views backed up by someone who is also lying or has an agenda to push, but this time the information reinforces their pre-conceived notions. It's a chicken and egg scenario, caused solely by the people who have been in power in politics, the media, big business (e.g. "the elite") for the past 20 years. The cycle is up and as is usually the case with political ideals failing, it's entirely their own fault.

The mass media reacting to the fact they elected a man they hate with their biased and hysterical coverage of him, by issuing biased and hysterical coverage of him. Clever move.

Looks like Farage may be a useful idiot in Trump's battle against windmills near his Scottish golf course.
