A Republican judge appointed by Donald Trump gets to rule on a prosecution against Donald Trump and dismisses the case because the prosecutor was appointed by the Attorney General, who was appointed by Joe Biden.

Do you think she even sees the irony?

In any case, Democrats deserve a big slice of the blame for this too. They support politically-appointed judges, an idea so stupid you won't find it anywhere else in the developed world and that's one of the biggest sins in ECHR. Governments can't so much look at the judiciary in Europe if they don't want to lose in Strasbourg, as Poland has found. Idiot centrists assumed that hey, we're all Americans, we'll all play fair, Republican judges would never be partisan. Now the Supreme Court has abandoned all pretence of even being a court, it's just a legislature with no elections than has an inbuilt two to one majority for a political ideology that doesn't represent the country.

Democrats should have fixed these problems when they had the chance. It's too late now.

I don't see why. When it reaches the Supreme Court, Trump wins.

Wrong. The current Court has already upheld Special Counsels. As a bonus, Hunter’s charges….and the Biden investigation…

The biggest problem with reporting in the PA shooting, all the commentary is by political commentators looking for a political angle, when all the interviews so far provide no political motivation. The motive may simply be non-political…paging Jodie Foster.

If they want to find a way to distinguish the previous cases, they will. They've become much bolder and less concerned with precedent lately.

Totally agree on the shooting, all the talk about political violence pisses me off when an awful lot of Presidential assassination attempts are by crazy people for wild reasons. There's a guy serving 20 years for trying to kill Trump with a fork lift truck.

I see Musk is donating Trump $45 million per month up till the election. With Peter Thiel paying for the VP, I guess we can forget about these cuddly liberal nerds fiddling about in their parents garages and becoming immensely rich but doing it all for the best reasons, the image the Silicon Valley mob tried to project for decades. Now it's all about zero regulation, negligible taxes and pitching for eternal life with neural transfers and the like, mad fuckers.

Did you really expect anything different, welshbairn?

I didn't expect them to drop all pretences and become Marvel villains openly.

Zuckerberg was a pioneer of weird tech billionaires.

Now they're all at it.

The problem is Cannon dismissed the charges on the basis of arguments already quashed by previous Supreme Court decision over the past 150+ years. Cannon's incompetence basically has doomed any appeal...but she has managed to delay the trial.

All tech billionaires are weird, from Zukerberg to Gates, from Musk to Div.

Sure, but the Supreme Court has been routinely overturning or distinguishing (not the same thing) its own precedents lately, on a wide range of cases. There is always a way to distinguish a precedent if you really want to, because no two sets of facts are identical.

Hopefully they won't go that far but they could.

Clarance Thomas has indicated he’s willing to cross that bridge…but no other Justice joined in his concurring opinion that suggested it. That’s pretty clear, as you can join a concurring opinion in part if you wish to.

That's probably not a gaffe. The American Right have been banging on about Hitler being a leftist for years, and "communism" was their word for "anything we don't like" for decades before they switched to "socialism", "Marxism", and "woke" after their Red paranoia became a global joke.

She may very well genuinely think that Hitler, who had actual communists persecuted and murdered for their ideology, was unleashing communism upon the world. Plus, it's now very inconvenient to say that America helped to defeat fascism, considering they're now undeniably the party of fascism.

Very common for right wing losers to take the “socialist” part of National Socialist literally. All in bad faith of course.

By the same logic, North Korea must be a democratic haven because they have Democratic in their Sunday name.

I'm sure there was a Yes Minister joke where Hacker asks Humphrey what kind of government a country has, the response to which was "their full title is the People's Democratic Republic of <x>", to which Hacker says, "ah, so it's a dictatorship"  :P

I would love to put her in the same room as that Reform candidate who said we should have remained neutral in the Second World War.

They would probably agree on most other things but the War itself would be an interesting conversation.
