It's a story across the NHS and across the UK. It's probably exacerbated more in Scotland due to a generally unhealthier population putting greater demands on health care (Covid related and non-Covid related). Some fair points. The whole NHS system is in a mess but too big to fix quickly. Id like to know if they’re still going through all the charade about testing and segregating out Covid patients? The pandemic is over. No need to bother anymore. Surely? Time we started looking at how other countries deal with health as outcomes here in the UK are near the worst in the civilised world. This business of putting the NHS up on a pedestal has got to stop. It’s a business and we’re the consumers who are being treated abysmally.
Elric
Neighbour attended at Forth Valley and had to wait hours before being admitted. Now in a ward where they were putting 2 beds per booth instead of 1. He said he was delighted that he is in Scotland and not England as the FM says we are so much better. Perhaps she and the health minister will pop along and see the conditions. Forth Valley designed to incorporate patients from both Falkirk and Stirling areas but which unfortunately, is turning out to be totally inadequate.

Built under PFi about 20 years after they should have closed and binned Alloa, Falkirk and Stirling. We can thank Mickey Forsyth for upgrading Stirling RI instead in the 80's 90's then Labour for the FVRH aberration. Late, not big enough, shitey design, ludicrous finance restrictions and really difficult and expensive to adapt. But it does have an M&S food.
Paco
As good a thread as any for this - I think the SG are in a little bit of trouble with the Westminster tax cuts announced today. With a fixed budget already being stretched - and NHS staff/teaching staff likely to go on strike because of pay very soon - I don’t imagine a 1p cut on earnings up to £43k and then an abandonment of the 46% tax rate altogether was particularly high on the agenda. Politically speaking it’s probably easy to keep the 46% in play for earners over £150k. But if average Joe on £28k is getting a couple of hundred quid back in Newcastle it’s pretty hard to resist, and Scotland would become the highest-taxed area of the UK for all earning above £14,732. Not a great look regardless of the explanations.

Jeff Venom
Suppose it also depends on whether Scots residents feel tangible, demonstrable benefits of paying a marginal amount more in tax than elsewhere in the UK.
Dawson Park Boy
Income tax devolution is becoming a greater and greater trap for the SG as the amount they get from higher tax becomes less and less. Barnett would have produced more cash. Interesting times ahead.

Cut a percentage or two off income tax and bump council tax up 10/15% for parity with England?

Kenneth840
Useless, absolutely useless. At a time when the UK is at its knees we have silence from our FM. This would be a good time to make a move. A PRO INDEPENDENCE government at Holyrood and the chaos with the UK economy should be enough. Liz Truss has not received the bounce. Go Nicola, Go for it. Have some balls here and use your mandates and PRO INDEPENDENCE government to declare Independence from UK, don't be scared Scotland will back you.
