If you're being completely threadbare, then we need a striker, a centre half and a fullback.

Other players - MacPherson, Erhahon, Flynn, Foley - can and have covered in defence before. Magennis and Flynn can play wide right, and McGrath can play off the striker. Morias is an option at wide left if Durmus was injured.

It's far from ideal, and means the squad is thin as all hell, but we can fill a team and players can cover.

Hopefully fans* will then be back in the ground by the time the January window comes round.

* Non-season-ticket fans, obviously - that's where any 'extra' money will be coming from.

No different to what he's said yesterday on Sky Sports News.

He's still expecting another 4 or 5 in. Knowing Goodwin, he'll stretch that out to the full 5. He's also clearly downplaying it a wee bit as well given we just bid significant (for us) cash on a player last week that we ultimately just missed out on.

Even if he does have a bit to throw about, he's not going to say 'I've got plenty of budget left' in the knowledge that agents are still trying to get as big a deal as possible for players.

I think in the circumstances, if we start the season with 7 or 8 new faces, we'd have done OK.

Hopefully we'll see some academy players making their breakthrough this season.

Hopefully if any of them are ready. Cammy Breadner and Nick McAllister spring to mind as the two main candidates.

This season could be a big one for young Erhahon if he gets a bit of game time in midfield.

Yeah, agree about Erhahon. Will be interesting to see if his time away at Barnsley has strengthened certain aspects of his game.

When I think Peter Hartley I think Motherwell 1-4 St Mirren at half time.

I think of Obika bullying him all over the Fir Park turf to such an extent that he had to be taken off at half time to be replaced by... Richard Tait.

They then kept a clean sheet for the next 75 minutes.

It’s a no from me.

Clinical finish for the O.G. too.

I’m sure when he first joined last season he kept mentioning 3 or 4 players to come in, but added about 8.

I think he just plucks any old number out to mean “aye, I’ll be signing some players.”

Got to say I don't buy the story that our budget has suddenly been slashed. Is it lower than last year? Probably, and for all the reasons we can think it will be, but I just don't believe Scott walked into Goodwin's office and said, "just a heads up, big man, we're cutting your budget". Goodwin, I have no doubts, would have been aware of the situation long before now and the rough figure the budget would be.

It's going to be an interesting transfer window. I'd say there are many other teams who have overextended compared to us (especially down in England) and I can see clubs happy to keep afloat by letting players go when in a normal season they would have kept them on. There could be some bargains to be had if a decent length of contract is offered along with a positive vision for the way we play - and I'm sure Goodwin will be able to do that last part no problem.

^^^ This in a nutshell.

I'm not saying it's not cut but it makes no sense at all to declare your budget is healthy in times such as these.

Anyone whose agent might want a grand a week suddenly wants double that if they think you've got plenty of disposable.

Away fans are not a necessity home fans should be. Would think you could get 3,000 in easy enough mouth and nose area covered. Toilets regularly cleaned during a game.  Alchol gel available in diffrent areas. At the end of the game just let out so many fans at a time. It could be done if a health & safety plan was implemented.  All depends what the virus is doing going into winter as it could peak again .
Toilets cleaned.....hot water and soap would be an improvement !!!

The lack of hot water the toilets in the ground is something that definitely should be looked at. It's never worked in 10 years. At least not in the west stand.
Aye. And we need hand driers that work. Pretty basic stuff in this day and age.

To be fair it makes no difference whether it’s hot or cold water. The end result is the same.

To spread of the virus? No.

To the amount of folk avoiding washing their hands as they inderstandably don't fancy soaking their hands in 2 degree water in the depths of December? Most definitely.

Now wondering if the hot water I thought I felt out the West Stand taps was real or confirmation bias.

If the tap has a red sticker on it the water is going to be hot, right?

Same here, I always thought it worked fine....

As for Peter Hartley, I think he's left footed, and Goodwin seems to like that for his left sided CB. I wouldn't write it off.

You’ve just made me feel old. Is that over 10 years since the move?
