If they’re desperate to get him off the wage bill it’s not unthinkable that he ends up back at Hibs and we just effectively write off the rest of the instalments they have to pay us. If you were in for him you’d think they’d be looking for at least the money they’ll still owe to us which prices you out. I still can’t believe there wouldn’t be a couple of Championship sides down south interested but none of them seemed to be when they could’ve had him for 500k a year ago so not sure they would be paying 3x that now.

I think his salary may be the issue, he is on £1m pa tax free - obviously that is moot if he isnt being paid, or if they havent paid Hibs the instalments................but I tend to agree with the sentiment that nobody in Scotland is getting close to the salary he would / could command on the "open market". Hibs only advantage is that, presumably his registration would revert to us if they didnt pay us.

As Leith says, he'll want to be paid as close to his current wage as he can possibly get. An awful lot of money to walk away from.

The punishment was the 3-0 forfeit and the embarrassing cup exit.

Maybe simply an age decision. They've brought in two mid-late 30s lads in Marshall and McGeady. Maybe just the squad profile doesn't allow for another one.
