The mighty Raith v Airdrieunitedonians etc

Recommended Posts

This is the game that we really don't want.  History says the Rovers go on a run of several unbeaten games then it is highlighted by the media.  The next Saturday there are an extra several hundred people coming to watch the game to see this good Rovers side.  Boom we fcuk up and said extras are not seen again until the next time if at all that we have a wee run.  I for one given our history would take a draw.

I wouldn't. We are flying. This isn't last season, or one of the various dreary Murray league campaigns. This 'I'd take a draw' stuff is what happens when a fanbase becomes used to mediocrity. Last season was grim but this is a new season.

You'd take a draw against the worst Airdrie side in a decade, at home, having scored the most goals in Scotland, conceded the least whilst top of the league? Ambition.

Deary me ????????‍♂️

You'll probably also be first on here to moan if we draw.

We should comfortably win on Saturday and the following Saturday. My worry is when we go to St Mirren in the Diddy Cup and most likely lose. How will we then respond at home to an Arbroath side, who so far, have a very impressive away record.

Unfortunately missing tomorrow’s game, first home game I’ll have missed (and 2nd game of the season). Airdrie seem to be in massive disarray, and we’re flying!
1-0 HT, 4-0 FT; Vaughan, Buchanan double and... Herron. Att. 1700.
COYR!!

Jinlingeordie you'll never hear me moaning about a good Rovers team.  All I said was that in the past we have gotten good runs going and that usually means we get a lot of local interest then bang we shoot ourselves in the foot.  The Kirkcaldy public being their fickle selves moan about it being the same old story reverting back to the early 1980's.  I for one hope we destroy Airdrie(Clydebank) on Saturday by two or three goals.  I will be there as I hope a couple of thousand Rovers supporters will be as well.

I'm not sure we have a history of doing it, although we did do it to a degree in the first season I started going.

I think we were the last undefeated team in Britain after 15 games, and Grandstand put together a wee feature on us. I remember they interviewed Andy Leigh, and my first thought was that literally no-one from outside Fife would understand what he was saying.

Anyway, after the grand build-up, we lost 3-2 to Meadowbank, a fact I completely blamed on Dickie Davies and his stupid Grandstand program. Even though it was the fag end of November, it was the first time I'd seen us lose a match.

I moaned for about 2 hours, but thankfully I'm far more sanguine about defeats these days, and generally keep moaning down to around the 90 minute mark.

That one's still a draw as far as I'm concerned we had an equaliser chopped off that was never offside (Marshall I think) and sticking with my level of denial I don't think I seen us lose all that season :)

Another shout to the Airdrie folks that the bar in the Raith Suite in the main stand is open from midday (last orders about 2:40) but open right up until 3!) - you are all very welcome!

Any fans of any persuasion that do go have a drink for me ... working today so having to get my pre-football drink/excitement fix through the enjoyment of others :(

What a lot of shite, folk casting stuff up from nearly 40 years ago, despite us having won 2 trophies and played in Europe since then.

2 trophies? Are we not counting the Seaside League titles or the First Division titles or the two cups?

Beastie it happened albeit a while ago but history says we have played well and when the press and others start praising the Rovers it has a tendancy to go tits up.  I'll give you another history lesson, in 1975 we had an unbeaten run of it came to the media's attention.  There were camera's at our next home game which happened to be Queens Park we lost 2-0 media hype again.  It's been happening this week with paper headlines of best team in Scotland, I really hope we win today but I for one wouldn't be surprised if history repeated itself.  Beastie if we win I'll buy you a pint.

From a Rovers perspective, if we lose today it's because either we weren't good enough.  It won't be down to hype or media....just one team putting the ball in the back of the net and doing their job better than the other team.  Ayr fans were greeting a fortnight ago about how they were miles better than us, and very few gave credit to our defence for limiting their opportunities.
