"Alex Salmond has been reported to police over allegations he sexually assaulted two staff members whilst First Minister."

That.

The Record have seemed to have withdrawn that link. P.S. Sorry, see the story now.

Not sure what to make of this at all. If it's true then he needs punted from the movement and completely disowned.

This should have happened long ago. Since being punted from Westminster he has been a complete embarrassment for the SNP and Yes minority movement.

Don’t think anyone is surprised about these allegations. Salmond has always had a creepy vibe about him.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see more allegations come out against him now.

And he’s taking the Scottish government - as in the SNP - to court. Should be fun.

As it stands you have to be deeply sceptical.

The fact Salmond has brought it to attention himself in full knowledge it may harm the SG in the press is revealing.

Why has nothing been said before.?

Most importantly if the police were previously informed, they will no doubt have thoroughly investigated..what was the outcome?

Something is not right.

You’re missing the point, the story was coming out anyway. Salmond’s trying to lead the narrative, which will of course be almost impossible against a hostile media.

No idea if the claims are true, I hope not, but let’s wait and see.

I'm surprised. I've never noticed a creepy vibe - far less "always".

Depressing. I think it was relatively common knowledge that Salmond wasn't necessarily a great guy on a personal level but would never have imagined anything like this.

As NotThePars says, if the allegations are true then the victims need to be supported and believed, and Salmond needs punted - no place in the movement for abusers.

He more or less has been already. He's a private citizen with no formal standing in the political world beyond the capital he possesses as a former First Minister. As a divisive figure, and immediate predecessor, it's unlikely that any new campaign led by Sturgeon would've been keen to have Salmond anywhere near the real action.

As to the allegations, due process must play it's course, properly and transparently.

Oh yeah absolutely - I meant more in the sense of the wider "Yes movement".

Doubt there are many in the left of the movement that cared for him anyway, as for the centre, they have the Sturgeon led SNP to pivot behind.

If these allegations are true, hell, even if they aren't - Sturgeon has little to lose by cutting Salmond off completely like a gangrenous limb. Unlike the old Tory sleaze, where financial impropriety on the part of some was enough to tar a whole government of the day,  trying to infer from Salmond's (alleged) actions a wider issue at the top of the Scottish government realistically flounders on the gender of the current incumbent of Bute House.

Seems odd that the DR is claiming to have known about it for some time yet they could have made the claims during the height of the #metoo movement and probably have done more damage.

Wonder if the DR were holding onto it till the indyref2 campaign starts? Has Salmond gone public now for minimum damage to indyref2 campaign that may be called in a few months time?

What are the odds that Salmond could politically hurt Surgeon? Deliberately.

I would have thought allegations of a sexual nature would hurt him more than her.
