Living next door to a stadium

***P+B must not like me creating threads (probably because they are shite)

Does anyone live directly next door to a football stadium?  If so - what is that like?   I thought about this when the discussion on the Aberdeen stadium thread moved on to the subject of blocking light out for those around it.  Growing up I was always jealous of the people who lived directly behind Rugby Park but now as an adult and a home owner I would imagine its absolutely shite.  The thought of struggling to get parked outside my own house, the noise from the ground etc every second Saturday for 9 months must get quite annoying.  I also know how much I appreciate having a semi-decent view out the back of my house and looking out to just a football stadium must be quite grim.

I assume it would be even worse if it was not the team you supported.

My first flatmate decided it was better to watch one half of the pitch of Thistle games than pay to get in in a previous student flat.  Guy was a fucking idiot IMO

[I didn't live there]

Closest i have done was a bunch of rubble over the back wall that used to be Love St in my 2nd flat

I live right across the road from Easter Road (#EH7) and can see into the ground from my bedroom. I love it. Most of the time Hibs are playing I'm not there anyway as I'm off watching ICT but on the few occasions I am kicking about when there is a game on I love the noises coming from the stadium. I hadn't realised how much of a delay there is on Sky when they cover games. The other night when Hibs played Rangers an incredible roar went up from the ground making me suspect that Hibs had scored but on the TV the ball was nowhere near the Rangers goal. A few seconds later it was in the net so sadly the suspense is somewhat taken away

The only downside is the roads get closed off before the game ends so one night I had to sit in the Meadowbank Retail park for about an hour for Albion Road to be reopened.

My parents house, in which I stayed from age 6 - 26 is about 150m from Rugby Park. The only annoying thing was having to remove your car from the street for matches, although we had space at the back to keep them.

Those who visit the east stand at Rugby Park will see the lack of light on the houses behind them - we were fortunate enough to be up the street a bit so it didn't affect us. Those properties still have gates at the back so the residents can simply walk out their back gate and into the stadium free of charge.

I had to move to Kilwinning after getting married and I miss it.

The noise was fine, even in the mid 90s when the place was a sell out. The Celtic/Rangers visits often meant a huge volume of litter was left behind lying on the street but that doesn't happen as much now. The only real bother we had was some Motherwell fans about 10 years ago who vandalised all the cars in the street.

I lived in a flat in Polwarth for nine months, you could hear the crowd at Tynecastle from the bath.  I then moved to Leith and lived close to Easter Road for seven years.  The first place we lived was a crappy small flat on one of the roads off Easter Road that was on the ground floor and faced onto the street, so that got pretty noisy on match days.  Having said that it was pretty noisy at the best of times.  We then moved to a flat on Montgomery Street on the third floor, so was a lot quieter.   It used to be amusing to watch the crowds on big games, occasionally seeing the pavement dancing you get at certain Hibs games.

I have stayed on Merkland Road East. It was fantastic but I had to walk further to the pub than the stadium.

Also stayed in 3 other flats/houses within 5 minutes walk.

I'm miles away from Pittodrie now but I'd have no problem with them moving the stadium closer to me.

I have always wondered about those gates and whether we give the residents free entry to try to compensate for the difference between old/new Rugby Park.  Does anyone know if we got much pushback when Fleeting decided to build the stadium or was it not too bad because we already owned the land?

A girl I previously worked with dated a girl who lived on Easter Road but had a fear of crowd noises. Would get heavy freaked out whenever Hibs played. Probably oddest irrational fear I've ever heard.

I don't think the club could really force someone to brick up an access gate which was already there. The club could have done something with the placement of the turnstiles so that the access was still outside the concourse, but I'm not sure the would be sufficient room. Having looked at old pictures of the east stand, it was a fair size and the roof went up to an apex so I'm not sure how much difference the new stand would have made to the residents in terms of blocking light.
