The Wine Club

I'm sure a few glasses of wine will have been enjoyed  recently by the fine people here on pie and bovril, so here is a thread for you to tell us about it.

Do you prefer a white wine or a nice red?

Welcome!    Become a member of this Wine club by posting your thoughts here.

I absolutely love red wine. White wine is great in certain occasions, particularly in the summer and if I’m required to be more sociable. Red wine puts me in a bit of a daze.

You must drink it by the gallon.

I quite like red wine but never really been a fan of white wine. Best I've drank this Christmas was Terre de Faiano, bought a few bottles and they went down well over Christmas. Generally only have wine with food really but over Christmas I usually end up drinking a fair bit.

Is anyone still in a wine club these days?  I was with Laithwaites years ago but binned them.

With the economical costs and selections available in supermarkets they have surely become pretty much obsolete.

Still quite a few of these "specially selected case just for you" mobs in operation. I think virgin still do it too.

Most of these wines are the same cheapo stuff you buy in the supermarket and a collection of stuff they need to get shot of. Even with their £60 off your first case they still come in at a stupid price.

One for the mugs only those schemes.

Wouldn’t hesitate to drink a bottle of it in between the drinking of beers.

In the house its usually a couple of beers first then onto the vino. The pub can get complicated, if I end up going on wine after drinking beer I've been known to carry on drinking it like its beer which can get messy.

Its just about exclusively red I drink although the odd kiwi sauv blanc on a sunny day hits the spot too.

All this wine nonsense. You get all of these wine people don't you. You know, wine this, wine that. Let's have a bit of red; let's have a bit of white. Oooh that's a snazzy bouquet. Oooh this smells of... I don't know, basil! Sometimes you just want to say sod all this wine just give me a pint of mineral water.

To be fair beer is going the same way with all the 'craft' stuff.

I have no experience of the mineral water market although a scene from Heathers springs to mind.

You're obsession with me is endearing Biggie, even when it's a cheap attempt to garner greenies.  Anyway I'd like to wish you a happy new year.

I love wine in the way I love art; know f**k all about it other than what I like.  Like most reds, particularly Rioja; like dry whites, particularly Chablis though I'm too miserable to buy it often.

Presently sitting drinking a bottle of Sainsbury's Semi Sec Cava with brunch.

People who drink Rose are scum; sub-human scum.

The good thing about the craft beer thing us that now basically every pub has a choice of beers with flavour, unlike 10 or so years ago where you would have the choice of Deuchars or generic bland lagers. The snobbery around beer these days is annoying though.

I'm a lager man but I gef your point. Just drawing the comparison between wine snobbery (wankiness) and beer snobbery (wankiness). Like Danger I'm not an expert but know what I like and I don't like the wankiness.

Someone’s had a bit too much wine over the festivities!

No one has ever said that and if they have they should be put in prison.

Can I just shock you? I like wine. Despite what I just said earlier. At any one time I have nine bottles of wine in the house.

I’m going to predict he has a wine rack that he likes being filled to capacity.

Good shout throbber. Sounds like he needs a bigger wine rack.

At the moment I am mostly enjoying Argentinian Malbec, if having a white I do enough a new Zealand Sauvignon blanc (Marlborough).

People (especially men) who drink Rose wine are oftw
