Lebowski
An old image of the Merkland Road end of a packed Pittodrie for Aberdeen v Hibs in 1947 I seen on Twitter earlier getting that retrospective colour treatment thing.Cracking photo. If the year is right Hibs won 2-0 with goals from Gordon Smith and Eddie Turnbull, played in front of 40k and the game was on a Wednesday so fair amount of workshy fuckers in Aberdeen at the time apparently. http://www.fitbastats.com/hibs/game.php?gameid=3023

Some schools still have a Wednesday half day instead of Friday.

Salvo Montalbano
What schools have a half day Friday or Wednesday?!Edinburgh do, Dundee I think does and it could well be coming soon to a Fife school near you. Chances are it'll be in Fife for the 2020-21 school year if not before.

7-2
Without totally derailing the thread. why? Is down to the teachers, the school kids students, both or just because they do it America?
Ranaldo Bairn
Often it's for sport or extra curricular stuff.
HibeeJibee
They introduced "half-day" Friday in the Scottish Borders a few years ago, although it's really a two-thirds Friday as lunch falls later. It was supposed to save some money - but hasn't - and it's a bit inconvenient for some pupils travelling by bus as not all the routes run early on the Friday. It was so they can run 7 period days (5 on Friday). Prior to that some schools ran 8 period days, some 6 period days, and a few places like Gala Academy already had briefer lunch breaks Monday-Thursday then proper half-day Friday. It was also argued it'd give teachers Friday afternoon for marking etc. but most seem to go home. 12 hours ago, HibeeJibee said: 1955: huge ER crowd for Edinburgh v Newcastle. Pre-ko and at HT spectators were entertained by the Pipes & Drums of the Arab Legion and introduced to the Lord Advocate and his wife. Forgot to mention the crowd here was 48,600 for what was effectively a friendly!

Cheers. To get the thread back on track, here's a random pic of some Saints players presented as if it had some historical significance when it's really just a pic of some Saints players...

There was a brief craze for professional Midweek Leagues on weekday afternoons before WWI. In 1912-13 the Inter City Midweek League was established by Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen and Dundee with 1 game on Tuesdays / 2 on Wednesdays each week. It got abandoned after 4 rounds of matches due to poor crowds. That same season a rival Glasgow & District Midweek League was established by Clyde, Partick, Third Lanark, Morton, St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Falkirk. It was abandoned in the spring. Lanarkshire version for Airdrie/Hamilton/Motherwell didn't fly. Raith and QP were the other top-tier clubs.
