I saw an interview with Souness once talking about Liverpool playing Dinamo Bucharest in the European Cup in the 1980's, first leg at Anfield he breaks their star player's jaw with a vicious, deliberate elbow after they had been kicking each other all game, no VAR or compliance officer in those days so went completely unpunished. Over in the return leg in Romania he is getting some serious abuse from the crowd during the warm up, throat slitting gestures, objects thrown at him etc, he shakes his head, waves his finger to the crowd and points to Terry McDermott, who had a similar perm/moustache combo and makes an elbow gesture in his direction to the unwitting Terry Mac who, for the entire 90 minutes got the most horrendous abuse from the crowd with stones and coins pelted off his head each time he ventured near the touchline. Such absolute nerve and shithouse behaviour actually should be grudgingly admired

Can only be him, he was still involved in the Glasgow Schools Select trails in the 90s and took me along for the trial each year. One for the few Sons of the rock that I know follow this thread.. He was a pretty good PE teacher. Though fond of having us all out playing football in just strips & shorts in all shitey weathers, while he stood there reffing, in trackies and waterproofs.

Went to a Liverpool v Sheffield Wednesday league cup tie at Anfield. Wednesday were outclassed and 90% of the action was in Wednesday's half, so Bruce Grobelaar in Liverpool's goal was getting bored as were the big Wednesday support behind him in the Anfield road end. The Wednesday fans started chucking coins at Grobelaar. Most keepers would have complained to the referee or the polis about this and would have had the game stopped. Not Bruce though ... he took his bunnet off and started running round the six yard box collecting the coins and waving to the Wednesday fans to keep them coming. Bloody priceless ... can't recall the score though, the game was crap!

The bracing Blackburn air and the ageing effect of a no frills crewcut I suppose.

Liverpool would go onto play Walsall in the semi-finals where that man Souness would make the headlines again but this time for the right reasons. A wall collapsed because the stadium had too many fans in the away end and Souness rescued a young lad. Unfortunately another warning that went unheeded five years before the tragic events at Hillsborough. Remember it was a huge Owls support, made way more din than the Kop did. For entertainment value Grobbelaar was worth the price of the ticket alone though.

He scored 84 goals in 328 starts ( a goal every 4 games over 8 years is a superb return) one of which a mazy dribble and shot from outside the box to give St. Mirren their first win at Celtic Park in 20 years. He was also part of the only Scottish club to win the Anglo Scottish Cup. I agree that it was a disgrace that he never played for Scotland. ETA...lol. I realise that picture chops the heid aff Jimmy Bone holding the cup but it was the only one I could find that contained Stark. GNU_Linux
Robbie Winters during his during his seven season stint in Norway with SK Brann between 2002-2007 where he made 176 appearances & scored 64 goals winning the league in 2007 & cup in 2004. Charlie Miller was a team mate between 2004-2006. There was a return to Scandinavia with a single for Icelandic side Grindavik in 2011. Winter's playing career went on a fair bit not finishing up until the age of 43 with Cumbernauld United in 2018. The Scotsman did a decent article last year about his time in Bergen. As a side note his younger brother David also wound up somewhere less conventional for a Scottish player with two seasons in Vietnam for Can Tho in 2010-2011. Although not blessed with blistering pace he had a gliding motion about the way he moved, his off the ball runs were superb and a real feature of his play, a player hastily written off by an Aberdeen side in transition in the post Fergie era. A player signed for what now and even then was a ridiculous fee of £70,000. A travesty that he never received a Scotland cap. Totally agree, though the Aberdeen fans werent as convinced as the club that Stark was finished, Stark is the only midfielder to have scored over 100 top division league goals .
