It’s not quite as “antiquated” as the Scottish Cup which TV execs probably hate but also not one of these wanky post-modern skyscraper type trophies (SPL, Johnstones Paint trophy, CONCACAF gold cup)

I'm presuming the venue is Hampden. What's the story with the green netting? The photograph's been colourised using algorithms. I almost always makes a 'grey' shirt blue, even although Manchester United wore red in this match at City Ground Nottingham. Similarly, I don't think that's netting, but a red brick wall. From vague recollections of being there in the 'seventies. the ground was quite antiquated, and contained many foibles and, er, safety issues. 1 hour ago, Luddite said: It mildly annoyed me that Rangers were on the cover of that first programme, but not as much as it irked that the SPL couldn't be arsed producing a proper issue for the replay. Both clubs lobbied for a Dens replay, the football authorities weren't happy but relented, but weren't in the mood to mark the occasion with an established printed edition. And even as a photocopied/xeroxed effort, what they produced looked like it was a bungled school project which failed to gain pass marks.

Pretty sure Ajax v Rangers was 72 (or very early 73) and was unofficial. Ajax were in the following year too, first UEFA sanctioned 73-74 (vs either Milan or a German team)

I'm very happy to blame the SPL for many of the ills in Scottish football. This one, nearly 20 years before its inception however, seems a bit harsh.

HibeeJibee
55 years ago today... Saturday 28th January 1967 Scottish Cup, First Round Berwick Rangers 1-0 Rangers at Shielfield Park, Tweedmouth 13,365 Berwick delivered the greatest giantkilling in history to eliminate holders Rangers from the Scottish Cup at the opening hurdle. On a famous afternoon in Northumberland the part-time hosts weathered intense early pressure, and took the lead on the half-hour mark when Sammy Reid fired in from close range. Thereafter the tie ebbed and flowed but Rangers could find no equaliser and ultimately succumbed to shocking, humiliating defeat. Berwick lost 1-0 at Hibs in the next round and finished 10th in Division Two. Rangers went on to lose Division One by just 3pts and reach the Cup-Winners' Cup final where they lost to Bayern Munich. Contrary to most published sources this was not Berwick's record attendance - that came in a Scottish Cup loss to Rangers in 1960, which was watched by 16,000. There were 2 versions of the programme produced - latter version lacks the colour features on the cover.
