Imagine if the started showing reruns of "Love Thy Neighbour", the Internet would melt!!! Except it was probably of an age of stuff like porridge which is still fantastic and bears repeat watching over and over. It's utter shite anyway and the only good thing about it was the shooting stars piss take
Taxman
Stephen Lewis (Blakey) ended up in Last of the Summer Wine, playing a character ironically called Smiler.

In between, he starred in a spin-off of On the Buses called Don't Drink the Water, in which Blakey retires to Spain with his sister, played by Pat Coombes. It wasn't as good as the original (which is a bit like saying that Brechin are having a better season than Fort William).

BFTD
A fair number of these Seventies comedies feel like dodgy TV for kids these days. I used to like On The Buses when I was a wean, along with stuff like The Benny Hill Show, which my American father-in-law loved. It's hard to understand grown adults being entertained by extended chase sequences between old men and lassies in their skants. Speaking of which, On The Buses apparently got an American remake starring Dom DeLuise. I was surprised enough that Benny Hill made it to the America TBH. Tbf some of the Benny Hill stuff is quite funny and excellent examples of "sketch" comedy, if you remove the gratuitous scenes where it appears to resort to images of semi naked women and he is absolutely huge and revered in America, kind of in the same way that Jerry Lewis is almost seen as a god in France!!! And doesn't the image of old men being chased by women in their skants get more appealing as the viewer himself gets older, asking for a friend like and thought I would ask you, in your position as one of the sites resident elder statesmen!!![emoji6]
welshbairn
I met the director of one of the On The Buses films on a train once. Said it was a great laugh and made him enough dosh to retire to Australia.

That stuff always seems really dated, not because of changing societal attitudes to women or anything, but because of the ubiquity of porn now. You get the impression that stuff was thrown in to keep the middle-aged InCels vaguely satisfied, but thankfully we have better options these days.
