St Mary's St and most of the streets running off it as you head North pretty much cover all you would want on a night out.

If you are heading for the football then you'll find a few more "Down to earth" places in and around the Canton area.

I used to live there for a number of years...

What sort of thing you looking for mate?

Was down in Feb and as has been said St mary's is bouncing of an evening.

Also there was a decent bar called (i think) the live lounge which has bands playing which was pretty good.

Been in it a few times while I was working in Cardiff as it was just round the corner from the hotel.  Music on most nights, there is also a few pubs on Greyfriars Road just round the corner which are usually a bit quieter if that is what you want.

There's plenty of decent pubs in Cardiff, it's become one of my favourite away days. Fucked if I can remember any of them as I was hammered, but just wander about the city centre from pub to pub and you won't get bored.

Just anything really mate that's not gonna come attached with too much potential trouble.

Cheers for the responses so far people, it is much appreciated.

Well if you want a 'mad night' then St Mary's Street is always buzzing.

There's a few decent breweries/ale places round there now including Tiny Rebel and Hopbunker - worth a visit. Cambrian Tap and Pen and Wig also good (really like this pub).

If the weather is good and you have time - go for a few drinks round Pontcanna way - lovely area and you can pop in and see Charlotte's Church's Mum at their pub (if you so desire!)

In terms of live music, Clwb Ifor Bach/FUEL Rock Club/Tramshed. Metros is still going if you like Nu Metal/Pop punk from the year 2001 (I don't).

Student vibe you'll find round Roath/Cathays area. Huge union and few good pubs round there.

If you need anything else mate - let me know.

I have been considering Metros, I do enjoy a good indie/emo music themed night which seems to be what they have on a Saturday night theere.

The student vibe sounds fairly appealing also, I would like to mix ideally with people in my sort of age(21) range.

It could be some party down there that weekend aswell with there being an opportunity of Cardiff maybe gaining promotion to the Premier League that weekend!
