HibeeJibee Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 First-ever LL playoff final: 1st leg apparently in Castle Douglas on Sat 5th May, return in Fife a week later. Kelty, looking to crown their first senior season in promotion, won the EOSL today with 23 wins/1 loss; Threave, looking to return to LL after 2yrs absence, won SOSL on Monday ending with 24 wins/1 draw/3 losses. In their only meeting at Kelty in South Challenge Cup in January, Threave won on pens aet.

Threave have history at chucking the towel in at this level. I only hope they don't embarrass themselves score wise
Born To Run Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 Can't see anything apart from a Kelty win here. Was one of the 1400 in attendance yesterday, a thoroughly professional job done to seal the league under great pressure. To have any chance, Threave need to copy the LTHV tactic of getting in their faces and applying pressure to the defence while in possession. There is a mistake or two in that backline if they are forced into bad decisions...
HibeeJibee Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Kelty website confirms 1st leg is this Saturday (5th May) 3pm at Threave. Presume return the following Saturday (12th May) will be 2:30pm... though given it's under LL auspices I suppose it might be 3pm as well. Even if it goes badly for them, Kelty could still finish the season on a high - they've a home draw in the King Cup SF on Friday 18th May, with the Final on Saturday 26th May. Threave however are still in pursuit of multiple silverware - after the playoffs are done, they play the Potts Cup Final on Wednesday 16th May, then 48rs later the Tweedie Cup Final on Friday 18th May, and in the remainder of May will have to play-out the Haig Gordon Cup (in SFs) plus Cree Lodge Cup (in QFs). Indeed the Castle Douglas men have already played 46 competitive games this season - with between 6 and 9 to come for a total of 52-55; and all this despite losing in Scottish Cup R1, South Challenge Cup QFs, Southern Counties Cup R2 and SOS League Cup R1! In contrast the Fifers have played 35 competitive games so far - with 3 or 4 to come for a total of 38/39; so substantially fewer.
Marshmallo Posted April 29, 2018 Posted April 29, 2018 52 games at that level is absolutely mental, particularly with the number of postponements you get over winter. I've never understood the fascination in non-league football of playing loads of cups.

Crazy number of games for threave.I wonder if kelty would prefer a later k.o with Cowdenbeath starting early that day? Gives the possibility of neutrals doing both games(even if not the full game at both)? Obviously threave would need to agree to it

It's a particularly SOSL fetish... as well as the Scottish Cup, the South Challenge Cup and the Southern Counties Cup, they have FIVE internal tournaments: the SOS League Cup, the Cree Lodge Cup, the Haig Gordon Cup, the Potts Cup and the Tweedie Cup. (In comparison EOSL have only 2: the EOS League Cup and King Cup). They do so many cups there's actually an Overall Championship the Detroit Trophy, combining results in the league and all those cup tournaments, plus the Southern Alternate Alba Cup (for non-Scottish Cup clubs) and the South + East of Scotland Cup-Winners Shield (which its winner contest for a place in the following Scottish Cup) that Threave don't enter. With no midweek games in December-January, they've played almost every date all season.

Kelty always kick off at 2.30 p.m. even after putting the lights in I guess its just a tradition. People will have got into the habit of going to a game at that time although they may have missed a trick not moving to 3 p.m. to give folk another half hour in the club
HibeeJibee Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Indeed if Threave reach the Haig Gordon + Cree Lodge finals their total of 59 will be second only to Celtic: 2 ahead on 61 but who played 14 European games and are on for a domestic treble!Threave Rovers 2017-18 Sat 29 Jul Lochar (H) Wed 02 Aug Dumfries YMCA (H) Sat 05 Aug Lochmaben (A) Wed 09 Aug no game Sat 12 Aug St Cuthbert (A) Wed 16 Aug Nithsdale (H) *postponed* Sat 19 Aug Upper Annandale (A) Wed 23 Aug Wigtown (A) *expunged* Sat 26 Aug Heston (A) Sat 02 Sep Glasgow Uni (A) – SC PR2 Wed 06 Sep Creetown (H) *postponed* Sat 09 Sep Glasgow Uni (H) – SC PR2r Wed 13 Sep Newton Stewart (A) Sat 16 Sep Abbey Vale (H) – SCC R1 Sat 23 Sep Glenafton (A) – SC R1 Wed 27 Sep Creetown (H) *postponed* Sat 30 Sep Stranraer SOS (A) – PC R1 Wed 04 Oct Stranraer SOS (H) Sat 07 Oct Mid Annandale (A) – LC R1 Wed 11 Oct no game Sat 14 Oct Lochar (A) *postponed* Wed 18 Oct no game (was for LC R2) Sat 21 Oct Mid Annandale (H) – SCC R2 *postponed* Wed 25 Oct Nithsdale (H) Sat 28 Oct St Cuthbert (H) – TC R1 Wed 01 Nov Upper Annandale (H) Sat 04 Nov Lochmaben (H) Wed 08 Nov Mid Annandale (A) Sat 11 Nov Mid Annandale (H) – SCC R2 Wed 15 Nov Creetown (H) Sat 18 Nov Newton Stewart (H) – PC R2 *postponed* Wed 22 Nov Newton Stewart (H) – PC R2 Sat 25 Nov Dumfries YMCA (A) Wed 29 Nov no game Sat 02 Dec St Cuthbert (H) *postponed* Sat 09 Dec Lochar (H) – PC SF *postponed* Fri 15 Dec Annan SOS (A) Sat 06 Jan Newton Stewart (H) – HGC R1 Sat 13 Jan Kelty (A) – SCC R3 Sat 20 Jan Heston (H) – SOC R2 + Wed 24 Jan Creetown (H) – TC R2 Sat 27 Jan Heston (H) *postponed* Sat 03 Feb Abbey Vale (A) *postponed* Wed 07 Feb no game Sat 10 Feb Creetown (A) *postponed* Wed 14 Feb Heston (H) *postponed* Sat 17 Feb Stranraer SOS (H) *postponed* Tue 20 Feb Lochmaben (H) – CLC R1 Sat 24 Feb Bonnyton (H) Wed 28 Feb Heston (H) *postponed* Sat 03 Mar Edusport (H) – SCC R4 *postponed* Wed 07 Mar St Cuthbert (A) – HGC R2 Sat 10 Mar Newton Stewart (H) Wed 14 Mar Lochar (H) – PC SF Sat 17 Mar Abbey Vale (A) Wed 21 Mar Abbey Vale (H) Sat 24 Mar Lochar (A) Wed 28 Mar Stranraer SOS (A) Sat 31 Mar Edusport (H) – SCC R4 Wed 04 Apr Stranraer SOS (H) Sat 07 Apr Bonnyton (A) Tue 10 Apr Creetown (A) Sat 14 Apr Annan SOS (H) Wed 18 Apr Nithsdale (A) – TC SF Sat 21 Apr Nithsdale (H) >> Mon 23 Apr Mid Annandale (H) Wed 25 Apr St Cuthbert (H) Sat 28 Apr Heston (H) Sat 05 May Kelty (H) – PO Sat 12 May Kelty (A) – PO Wed 16 May Abbey Vale (H) – PC Final Fri 18 May Stranraer SOS (H) – TC Final ? – HGC SF ? – HGC Final? ? Salvo Montalbano Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 Nearest train station to Kelty. I Ken its just off the M90 but is it worth doing by train..... Where are you coming from? The nearest train station is Cowdenbeath, the bus to Kelty stops on the Main Street just under the train station. A taxi wouldn't be outrageous from there either if there are a few of you. If you are coming from afar it might be just as easy to get an express train to Inverkiething then getting the 7B from there direct to Kelty. That takes about an hour but if you are having to change somewhere to get a Cowdenbeath train it might be 6 and half a dozen. There are also direct buses (express buses to Perth, X26 I think?) from Edinburgh to Kelty which might be a better bet if you're coming from that direction.

Thanks looking at that (travelling from the south) it would be a pit stop at Cowdenbeath then the taxi job

That's the X56, I took it on Saturday from Perth and it was a good and quick connection, going over the M90. For anyone going to Kelty from the north that's definitely easier than taking the train to Cowdenbeath.

newcastle broon Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 4 hours ago, magoo said: How comes... There's a slight chance of Threave upsetting the odds where Kelty would stay where they are in the EoSFL. I very much doubt it of course but a slight chance none the less. Should that unlikely scenario happen we could have another shit season next season get relegated and Kelty piss the EoSFL. There ye go passing ships
magoo Posted April 30, 2018 Posted April 30, 2018 I don't doubt the relegation fight part...but Kelty will be up....
