Can't deny it's brilliant to see providing no one is hurt. The same authorities that pulled down 2 of the 3 high flats before realising there was a big f**k off phone mast on the third one that would prevent them from demolishing it. Actual hilarious levels of incompetence.

Turned out they had to knock them down.

There's a big footprint there so a good chance to redevelop into something that is actually decent. Unfortunately I doubt there will be trains running for a while at least. There'll be no trains in ayr i'd imagine for weeks if not months but who knows, top road into the town at Burns Statue Square will be shut for a while most likely on safety grounds which is going to make Ayr's wonderful one-way system a non event and turn the top of the town into an absolute clusterfuck to get anywhere. Although half the building now seems destroyed it's just opened the next legal disupute over who's going to pay for demoliton and so on.... (Council/Network Rail/Government) Wouldn't surprise me if the Malaysian owner appeared on the scene tomorrow accusing the council of setting fire to his property lol

Probably one of the busiest commuter stations outside the central belt, but surely with the building above it in tatters they can't run anything for a while. f**k knows how busy the buses to Glasgow will be.

Once they've checked the electrics for the railway would they be able to use Newton on Ayr as an alternative? Anything on the Maybole/Stranraer route will be out for the foreseeable by the looks of it.

Services will probably just terminate at Newton on Ayr, but the problem is that there will be nowhere to store the trains as it will now be impossible to reach the Ayr depot

Anything on the Maybole/Stranraer route will be out for the foreseeable by the looks of it. I seem to remember the last time the station was shut (because small parts of the hotel had crumbled), trains were only running as far as Prestwick Town. When I asked a mate who works on the railway about why they couldn't use Newton-on-Ayr he said to me it was because they would need to have somewhere to turn trains around where there is points to cross tracks, so they were using Falkland Yard just before Newton. And they couldn't use a track change after Newton because the electrical power in the overhead wires had to be turned off around Ayr. Probably wouldn't be able to use the depot to the south of the station anyway. Aye, trains from Maybole onwards I'd imagine for south direction.
