Must be a different player arsenal are playing west brom

Muhammadu Faal plays for Harry Enfield town and Mamadou Faal plays for West Brom.

Close names though. Would love to go back to the days when Ayr could get players from reasonably bigger teams like West Brom, Villa, Newcastle and the likes.

Sorry, was meaning first team players for the reasonably bigger team coming to Ayr.

Sinisalo was seen as a prospect, though I think he'd do well in a first team situation in the English league if needed. Best player in a poor Ayr team tbf.

When did we ever sign first team players from “reasonably bigger” teams like Aston Villa or Newcastle??

Tarrant was also on loan from Villa but in my lifetime I can't really recall us permanently signing anyone from a first team of any major clubs, unless you include short term deals in that such as international stars from the likes of Malmo and former Monaco Captains etc.

Biggest name signing possibly Luc Sonner followed by Nyland, Gill, Jemson, Andy Walker, Pat McGinley, Yogi Hughes, John Davies, Annand and Grady.

Castilla also a major coup at the time as was D'Jaffo when we signed him. Jens Hansen was also captain of Faroes national team, Knudsen also well known and Tommi Paavola also a Finnish International striker.

No chance of anyone like that nowadays, apart perhaps from the ageing Scottish players such as Hughes and McGinley, however even guys of that calibre would more than likely still find a good gig in the Premier.

Any word on the game on Saturday?

hearing it may very well still go ahead..

Tweet from Voice: Baffling how, against a backdrop of soaring cases in the country and renewed public health warnings, the SPFL continue to press Ayr today over a game of football that could easily be postponed.

It would be incredibly Ayr Unitedto go and win on Saturday after a week of no training and with 6 players out.

Stillie and Whyte in the dug-out, 6 changes to the starting line up, 4-0 win to Ayr.

Like when Reid and McGowan took temporary charge when the 2 Rabs left.

Get the academy team signed up on short contracts if we are forced to play. No point risking the rest of the squad if there is already covid circulating between them. Plus it will give the lads a chance to show what they can do with no pressure as we wouldn't be expected to win even with a depleted first team.

Shades of the time Davie Whyte played a standard team and system picking up points. Hopkins hand being forced might highlight a few things

Agree, we found ourselves in a similar situation last season albeit our players that were COVID positive were back in the team. Think it was 10 days we had went with no training. Got the green light on the Friday that our game against Hearts could go ahead on the Saturday. Trained the Friday and then beat Hearts at Tynecastle the following day. However a number of players were clearly still suffering from some lingering after effects of COVID. Jamie MacDonald in particular was struggling to catch his breath in the post match interview. But yes, whilst it might be very Ayr United to go on and win on Saturday (if the game goes ahead) it would also be very Raith Rovers of us to lose. I can't remember the last time we played a team with a depleted squad and put in a good performance/win.

It's self-interested, mewling pish like this that will end up getting the whole of Scottish football punted behind closed doors again.

Agreed - the “backdrop” has absolutely nothing to do with it. We either have enough healthy players to play, or we don’t.

How does playing games behind closed doors stop players from getting infected?  I doubt they’re catching it from the fans.  Well maybe that halfwit McGowan at Dundee might after jumping into the crowd last week…
