The police and the PF Scotland pile up the charges on a single incident to put pressure on defendants (usually to force them to plea guilty in return for the majority of the charges being forgotten). The last time I was in a court as a spectator a young man was up on about a dozen charges including 2 or 3 involving a knife, within five minutes the majority of the charges were dropped and the knife magically disappeared.Don't think it was a knife he was holding in his hand tbh. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I am speaking from personal experience (not sexual assault) that the norm is to be charged with as many crimes as possible for a single incident. It's a serious charge sheet and needs dealt with according to due process. I don't think anyone has got him down as a serial rapist, he is innocent until proven guilty after all.
