Bring Your Own Socks Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Any Saints fans remotely interested (player's families excluded) in this? I'd have thought bringing Gus back just for this game signalled how desperate the club is for a win against one of the big Glasgow teams. You've got to start somewhere. No danger of QP being complacent here. I was hopeful after the draw but given our recent form we'll need to be lively from the start. Team's been decent in spells but that mystery in front of goal will hopefully get solved this week. Once the seal is broken I'm pretty confident we've enough decent players to start banging them in on a regular basis. This game, and our next two, is as good a spell as we'll get to practise the shooting skills. Expect MR to keep to the same tactics and shape as this week. Away win by a margin of one.
Mick1867 Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Pretty confident of a win now, which I certainly wasn't before last Saturday. Got a mixed record against Colts sides in this competition - thrashed Killie at home and beat Thistle away on penalties a couple of seasons ago but lost a dreadful match to Motherwell (at Stirling of all places ) last season Same starting line up again will do for me, although East will be pushing for a place after the impact he made coming on against Clyde Pubs in Paisley? St. Mirren fan in work recommended The Bankhouse and The Bull ( that's two pubs, not the name of one)
Hampden Diehard Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Yip, I'll echo this. Hopefully we have someone who'll fill Gibby's boots. I was quite happy with what I saw against Clyde and previous Colts sides haven't been particularly impressive....and neither were the first team Buddies. It would be good to get through this and scoop up another European tie. We're a bit bulkier up front now. That might help against a weans' side. Here's hoping.

Highly likely that 3 Continental teams will make it through so chances are high. Sligo's a great place for the travelling man to quench his thirst.

Let's concentrate on scuttling the Buddie Babes.
Spidersman Posted October 12, 2018 Posted October 12, 2018 First up, best wishes to Mark Roberts on his confirmed role as Head Coach. It will be interesting to watch how he handles the responsibility of being on his own again, after his stint at Ayr. He'll no doubt be a wiser man for his experiences since then, and with much support coming from our own returning legend TQ, and the other backroom staff, I wish him well. This game is the proverbial banana skin. Given that we've drawn 3 cup ties this season against teams from higher leagues, which have gone to penalties, and we've won two of them. Let's hope if this one goes the distance that the Colts aren't as deadly from 12 yards as their 1st team.

RossBFaeDundee Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 They finally woke up with 15 mins to go. Hoping Partick do the same lol.

houstonspider Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Plenty of positives today. The way the subs played when they came on must have given the head coach food for thought.
bridgeofweirdo Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 East on from the start - no brainer !. Well done QP !.
houstonspider Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 McLean looked far happier on the right when East came on and East looked very good. Cause for optimism.
qpfc Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Extremely impressed with the subs. Moore looks very intelligent in his movement and link up play and East is extremely direct but can actually beat his man aswell. Would definitely start them next week
bobthespider Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 East and Moore starting next week please .
Bring Your Own Socks Posted October 13, 2018 Author Posted October 13, 2018 Every coach's dream; impact subs. It was a good effort all afternoon but as is often the case, nobody right in the kill zone. Until the subs. Moore in particular was spectacular. Brought McLean out his shell and suddenly we're scoring for fun. Seal's broken. Here we go!James Grant. 18 going on 26. Summers too had a 90 minute special. And Hawke seems to have found his sweet spot also. The rest were just really good. Well done Mark!

I wasn't expecting many locals to turn out to watch their under 21s, especially given the weather and the fact St Mirren were tweeting over 2 hours before kick off that the game might be in doubt ( the pitch looked fine so fair play to the ground staff) Very happy with our second half performance. I was wanting McLean subbed before he scored but he ended up having a stormer of a last half hour, so there is a player in there after all. Just hope we see more of it in the league matches . I thought Gerry had another great game, especially in the first half when they looked like extending their lead a couple of times. He got in the blocks and made the interceptions, plus he had to help McLaren through his debut
