Mart Apart
First trip to Munich next month - any must do’s? Bier Halle recommendations? Going to Allianz Arena too - I take it there is no pubs near the ground?
MP_MFC
Depends where you're staying, my preferred one was the massive Augustiner one by the station, the Hofbrauhaus is worth seeing but found the service poorer than the others. Not sure what the weather will be like, but I'd recommend the half day trip to Dachau to the camp if you're at all interested, an eerie, horrible place but a must visit in my opinion. LongTimeLurker
Was there for a few days not that long ago. Marienplatz is worth checking out for the more historical sort of angle in the centre of the city. Was in a beer hall there at one point during the World Cup but forget what it was called. The beer is definitely the highlight on that, so think any of them will probably be fine, basically. Lots of delirious Croats about when I was there and surprisingly few Germans when you are travelling about on the S-bahn trains and U-bahn as that appears to mainly be for tourists and gastarbeiter. Really efficient public transport, so it's easy to get about. They have a system where you have to validate certain types of tickets before you go on the platform or into buses and trams you need to be aware of if you don't get day tickets. Janne Lindberg's Laces
Der Pschorr by Viktualienmarkt is my favourite beer hall, but the Augustiner one by the station is good too. Opposite the Hofbrauhaus is the Ayinger place which does fresh beer in a nice big ceramic mug, food in there is very good too. I've only had bad experiences in the Lowenbrau place but it's further out from the centre so unless you're staying out that way I'd avoid it. Not really anything out by the Allianz unless you're going for a game.
Ross.
Absolutely f**k all near the ground. Even the train station that was built for the ground is a 20 minute walk away. Wee pub called "Tabacco" which is up a side street behind the Frauenkirch. Well worth a night on the tiles in there. Also a load of decent places for food(Especially steak) around the Viktualenmarkt. Would love to head back there again.

Right next to a sewage works. I'll get my coat.
