Enigma Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 So there’s a new exclusively Scottish BBC TV channel starting, what’s this going to be like then? I hate to say from what I’ve read my hopes aren’t all that high. Looks more like BBC Glasgow to me. The news is probably needed, the ‘England & Wales’ news items (sometimes headline) on the main BBC news are irrelevant to the audience up here so it’s good there is now an alternative to that. 0 Quote
Enigma Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 A thing nobody watches because it has no budget and it'll be on freeview channel 32475863495843659Pretty much. Probably a very high percentage of repeats to boot. 0 Quote

The difference is STV probably hoped those might work out, I'm sure the BBC will be popping champagne once this intentionally stunted channel fails. STV 2 (as it eventually became) failed because STV barely has enough programmes (and budget for that matter) for one channel. That’s why there’s fewer and fewer opt-outs from the ITV network. This new channel is effectively a replacement for opt-outs on BBC2, but in HD. 1 Quote
IainMorton Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 (edited) You get to watch “The Riots Of Cappielow Park” live on Friday night. Edited February 24, 2019 by IainMorton 1 Quote
The Naitch Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 I'm a bit dismayed that Steven Thompson and Scott McDonald are the presenters of the football coverage but otherwise seems to be quite a bit of promising stuff on the new channel to keep my interest. 0 Quote
DA Baracus Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 To me it's already a failure due to them having a daily 9pm news show that everything else is scheduled around. Any channel that focuses on a news show is a load of bollocks and no different to others. 0 Quote
JustOneCornetto Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Looking forward to the documentary Nae Pasaran about the Rolls Royce workers stand against the Pinochet regime in Chile. See there's also a documentary on Tuesday about gang violence starring Sean Batty, he's fair turned his life round since those days then 1 Quote
Stu Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 If that's going to be the new regular time and not just because it's the Scottish Cup next weekend then fair play to BBC Scotland for somehow managing to make it even later before they show the weekend's highlights. 0 Quote
Highland Capital Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 Can't help but feel that some folk on the inside of the whole Scottish media world are getting massively over-excited about the new channel. Over here in the real world, I've barely heard a thing about it. It's like that new dawn when STV Glasgow and Edinburgh launched...and then it set in that their own programmes were rubbish and folk didn't want to watch 20 year old repeats of Taggart and Take the High Road. 1 Quote

IainMorton Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 I imagine outside of Still Game and live football, the programmes will be shite. 0 Quote
Miguel Sanchez Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 You should all really be watching The People's News right now. If you thought the BBC was dumbing down before (it is), f**k me, you didn't have a clue 0 Quote

Silverton End Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 The People's News- absolutely f**king embarrassing, interspersed with incredibly annoying music. Cringe 0 Quote
