Lyle Lanley
Loudest pop in wrestling for a very long time.
Killiesquirrel
Really enjoyed that. The hour show is so refreshing compared to WWE’s 3 hour slogs… fair play to AEW they’ve hit it out the park
TheGoon
Not much to the rest of the show, but what else could you even put out there? Very much looking forward to tomorrow, Sunday, Dynamite and just wrestling in general. Lovely.

A genuine history making moment and I don't think they could've done it any better. Good to see him back, healthy and genuinely looking happy again.
forameus
Punk seems to be a bit of a p***kly dick in real life, and probably would be the sort of guy you wouldn't exactly want to go out for a pint with (pun kind of intended) but hard not to feel good for him. He seemed like he was done with wrestling, but maybe that was just done with it knowing that there was only really one place in town you could go back to. If he goes out in his return and doesn't look like he's missed a step, then that'd be great. You have to imagine Vince and Co are absolutely beeling right now. They haven't seen eye to eye in the past, but he sure loves making money. Particularly on the eve of, what, their 3rd biggest show of the year?

I reckon it's very likely he won't have. He said in the post show press conference that the negotiations were a year and a half in the making because he wanted to ensure AEW and Tony Khan was a brand he could trust and then the pandemic meaning he'd never have considered debuting in front of no crowd. So you'd reckon in 18 months, he was getting himself in ring shape. He did say recently that he'd been working hard for Heelz and felt like he'd never missed a beat when it came to hitting ropes and bumping. An emotionally invested, all-in (scuse the pun) Punk is going to be a massive benefit to AEW. Love him or hate him and the way he's conducted himself, he left a massive hole in the landscape when he left as he was one of those guys that you just know had it. AEW have totally reaped the benefits here of not conducting their business like WWE. This is the first signing they've made that will truly make people sit up and take a bit of notice.
djchapsticks
CM Punk chat aside, how fucking good was that camera shot following Moxley out into the arena at his entrance?

Even if Brock makes a return tonight, its overshadowed by Punk already. That pop was absolutely insane and I'm utterly pumped.
cb_diamond
An insane number of eyes on AEWs product right now. #1 twitter trend in the world and people losing their minds about all the possibilities. If they do this well then they are surely entering legitimate rivalry territory for the WWE.
Stellaboz
You can hear Vince on the phone to Rock already.

I read a fair comment on Facebook the other day with someone saying how far ahead WWE are which is true but someone pointed out the have had a 40 year start

However, If the ratings close further and the AEW TV money starts going up and up it will get very interesting. The Khans have substantially deeper pockets than the McMahons too.

Yep and rather than being a vanity project like TNA, they're actually doing very well in regards of money coming in and the TV channels are more than happy with the viewership. Interesting times
TheGoon
WWE won’t ever be caught financially. It isn’t like WCW in that it’s a genuine threat to their existence, they're much more secure now. Dynamite catching RAW isn’t far away in the ratings though, and whilst it hasn’t happened yet, you’d hope it’d inspire a complete refresh.
FairWeatherFan
Monday Night Wars was Nintendo v. Sega, where they were focused on their own games and systems alone. A dip in popularity for them could see the company fail. This is more Playstation v. Xbox. The wrestling is just a cog in the corporate machine. DukDukGoose
Amazing pop for Punk. You could see it meant a lot to him. Eyes rolled when I found out he's wrestling Darby Allin.

Stellaboz
Why Allin? Isn't he a face with Sting?

He's a draw on his name alone. Feed him a low card heel for him to squash at the PPV. Don't have him going 50/50 with a midcarder. If he squashes Allin then his stock takes a bit of a hit.
