The Mantis
I was back in Fuglafjørður this summer, on a training night. A bit of construction going on. Wonder if they'll replace the famous ÍF gates when they're done. They're getting relegated this season by the looks of it.
19QOS19
Had no interest in going to the Faroes until I looked at this thread. It looks absolutely gorgeous and some stunning photos Mantis.
The Mantis
The island of Suðuroy has two main towns, Vágur and Tvøroyri. This is á Eiðinum, home of FC Suðuroy who play in 2.deild which is the 3rd tier. VB Vágur merged with Sumba to form FC Suðuroy who now play in Vágur, hence the VB on the pavilion. At the moment the 'big team' on the island are TB in Tvøroyri who play in the Betri Deildin, the premier.

Yeah I've been to Iceland 3 times, first time with a bunch of photographers, went into the interior, it was magic. Other two times with Mrs Mantis. Faroes, been twice, once on my own for a long weekend, second time with the missus. Doubt if I can tempt her back though, even though she loved it, she tends to want new places. I can see me having a long weekend maybe next autumn.

It's that other worldly landscape that does it for me, like nothing I've ever seen before, I always leave Iceland feeling like I've just scratched the surface. Keep up the good work my man this thread is so good!
The Mantis
Við Løkin is the home of NSÍ Runavík, who went out 12-5 on aggregate to Hibs last season, and 2-0 to Ballymena Utd this season. Their home ground isn't suitable for European football (not sure why) so they play their home ties 3 miles up the road at Toftir. They are currently lying 2 points behind B36 Tórshavn with a game in hand. They have a fair bit of money behind them as their main sponsor is Bakkafrost which is the 8th largest farmed salmon producer in the world. I turned up for an U21 game one night this summer, but the opponents, Hoyvík from Tórshavn had scratched as they couldn't raise a team. Luckily I was able to nip along the road to Skála. To be fair, cancellations are rare. Faroes football is a summer season so the Euro qualifiying teams are always playing in a tournament they qualified for the previous October.

Was played at the national stadium instead. Cracking ground that is too. You can see right in it from behind the goals. Right next to Throttur Reykjavik's ground.

Aye had a walk around Throttur's park when there was kids coaching on but the Laugardsvöllur was all locked up. Actually flew home the same night the Scotland women were playing there, unavoidable.

Would be a cracking place for a game and potential to build it up into a cracking arena should the demand need it. Very interested to see how Iceland grows as a nation, as well as a footballing one. A massive country in terms of land, and so much space in Reykjavik. They seem to be actively looking to bolster the population and subsequent infrastructure too. In football terms, they've already grown now to a fairly stable and competent nation. I think in 20-30 years time, they'll be a very strong nation indeed.

If Kyles had a plastic pitch and lights.

The Mantis
Not quite so spectacular, but this is Skála ÍF who are comfortably mid-table in the Betri Deildin right now - not bad for a village which had 600 people about 2006, which is as current as I can find. The first two pics are 3 years old, the last one was taken at a U21 game this summer.
The Mantis
A bit more floodlight porn etc from the Tórsvøllur. Meanwhile next door at the Gundadalur, B36 currently edging it in the league from Kí Klaksvík with 4 games left. Fellow ground sharers HB in mid table.

The Mantis
Just a wee bump: The Betri Deild (Faroese Premier) finishes next Sunday after the two top teams negotiated tricky fixtures yesterday. It couldn't have been set up better, as leaders KÍ Klaksvík travel to Tórshavn to face second-placed B36, needing a draw to clinch their 18th title, and first since 1999. A win for B36 will give them their 12th title, after a 4 year wait. Nr. They have a ground at Við Margáir in the village of Streymnes, but it's not used by the first team these days:
