Too many posters on here make impulsive reactive posts. Best to consider your point over a few years, assessing the evidence as it arises - and even when wait another 6 months to finalise your thoughts before posting. I for one applaud this measured approach.

Following on from this.......

You wanted Steve Clarke out after Euro 2020 and you ended up looking like a bit of a tit.

Your post here shows an old dog can learn new tricks. Well done, keep it up. 👍

I’m honestly not sure what our strongest team and formation is for the upcoming games. I think I’m slightly edging towards the three at the back, as we are struggling for attacking wide players if we have more of a 4-3-3 style - only if Tierney is fit to start though. Ideally Souttar comes in for Porteous, but I don’t imagine he’ll be anywhere near ready.

                              Clarke

           Porteous   Hendry  Tierney

Hickey                                            Robertson

                  McGregor  McTominay

           McGinn                         Armstrong

                                Adams

Is it just me that's completely given up on Souttar? Great defender when fit and on his game, but he's an injury trainwreck and I can't see a future where he is playing regularly enough to be the kind of guy we build our defensive line around.

Hope I'm completely wrong and he plays 60 games a season from now till he's 40, but I really don't see it.

Goalkeeper and right sided centre half at this point are basically revolving doors.  Whoever is fit gets the gig.  Souttar playing regularly for Rangers would be a good thing, but you can’t rely on that.

Id have Porteous ahead of Souttar regardless of Souttars fitness...

I haven’t seen enough of either to truly give a fair opinion, but my thoughts are that the Souttar at Hearts was better than Porteous at Hibs.

Does Porteous have a Souttar Denmark style performance in him right now?

He had a Porteous style performance away to Ukraine that, under the circumstances, was arguably just as good, if not better.

He was very good - but wasn’t quite Souttar against Denmark level IMO. With McKenna out I imagine Porteous will get another chance, and I obviously hope he takes it.

I’m playing devils advocate slightly because I agree in general terms that Souttar is the superior player.

I think what both have proven though is that they’re capable of rising to the occasion, so wouldn’t fear either in the starting 11.

There is definitely an argument to be had over it - with the Souttar injury record it seems that Porteous will have the higher ceiling though.

It is easy to forget that at 26, Souttar is still relatively young for a CB but you just can’t see him getting over his injuries to continue to improve.

Souttars reputation has benefited from how little he plays, thats all im saying.

Porteous seems to be doing o.k. at Watford !?

Surprisingly despite being a ex-Hibs defender, he actually appears to be doing really well. Think he’s only scored 1 OG so far 🤣

The two games in this double header are going to be totally different. I think we'll go after Cyprus and try to get in about them early, similar to the Armenia game in the Nations League, but the Spain one will be very rigid.

Armenia made things easier for us by attempting to play out from the back allowing us to regain the ball in their final third. Cyprus won't do that if their game away to Israel is anything to go by.
