JL very hopefuly things will look better in the Autumn. I remember hearing things like that about Spring.

Just in time for respiratory virus season, fantastic!

Sarwar "testing and a robust isolation policy will be vital going forward if we want to return to any sort of reality"

If we keep isolation even after vaccination there will never be any sort of "normality"

People are not going to comply post-vaccination. There is clear evidence that this is already happening among auld biddies.

Case numbers may well need to be binned. However there is no doubt ours are rising now while the other nations are still falling.  Even Norden Oirlan has now overtaken us.
We could be about to enter a wash, rinse, repeat cycle. The more folk get vaccinated the more people start to bend the rules thus numbers of cases stop falling or even rise slightly. As number stop falling, the measures stay in place longer and the more people become disenfranchised and hence the more they bend the rules but all the time becoming more and more frustrated as measures can't / won't be lifted. That will be a nightmare scenario.

There's a direct correlation between case numbers and hospital numbers 2/3 weeks later. One goes up, so does the other. Early warning etc.

However, that was pre-vaccine. We're seeing hospital numbers drop at a rapid rate, ICU numbers also dropping, whilst the daily numbers show a slight rise for a few days. They'll settle back down again.

Nothing to see here really, positivity percentage remains low and we're about to ramp upto warp speed again on jagging.

Carry on.

If it plays out like this absolutely. I suppose a rise in cases is a good test for the prevention of hospitalization. Should prove to the powers that be that it's all a bit irrelevant.

There ye go, p and b masses. Your question about cases mattering has been asked and answered.

Quite amazing that a journalist didn't ask something that is blatantly obvious. The one who asked about whether they were making sure there were vaccines being kept back for second doses:blink:

Off to get my injection in a couple of hours. Spain not using the AstraZeneca on over 55s now means they are firing it into all of us who work in schools.

Life has a certain normality about it here - still have to wear masks and no large gatherings but can go for pints, meals, etc until 11pm and schools have been in full time since September.

Grim reading seeing some people using job titles as an insult, btw.

I missed it. Can you spill the beans?

At the moment case numbers matter. In future when more people are vaccinated they might not is pretty much what he said.

Preemptive headsgoning before the 'proper' routemap is announced on Tuesday is a bit pointless.

Pre-emptive white knighting for your 'team' before the proper roadmap is announced is equally pointless, not to mention a waste of good facepaint and curly red wig.

Deeply worrying comments from Leitch about cases. It shouldn’t be a problem, but the fact they’re already talking about needing a reverse gear for the tiers is dreadful chat. I just can’t get my head around what they’re trying to achieve. All along it was protect the NHS and save lives, the vaccine is now doing that. Life will literally be like this forever if they base restrictions on case levels.
Even if they were to go after ‘elimination’, there’s heehaw chance of that happening as soon as the infection factories are open.

There's inevitably going to be more cases in schools etc with the LFT's taking place.    The only number that counts is deaths rate and nobody has got the balls to come out and say what's acceptable.

No.  hospitalisations count as well.
