Who won the trophies in your time supporting your team?

Recommended Posts

I was discussing next season last weekend and someone said "whats the point the old firm will win everything anyway" which got me thinking who has won the leagues and cups in my years of following St Johnstone.

This list will be different for each fan of each team due to promotions and relegations and time following their team.

Thus my list with 40 season of following Saints is as follows (Started October 81)

League, with current names (21 seasons in Premiership, 16 in Championship and 3 in league 1)

  • Celtic - 12 - Premiership
  • Rangers - 8 -  Premeirship
  • St Johnstone - 4  Championship
  • Dunfermline - 3 (2 Championship and 1 League 1)
  • Motherwell - 2 Championship
  • Falkirk - 2 Championship
  • Aberdeen - 1 Premiership
  • Hibs - 1 Championship
  • Raith Rovers - 1 Championship
  • ICT - 1 Championship
  • St Mirren - 1 Championship
  • Gretna - 1 Championship
  • Hamilton -1 Championsip
  • Meadowbank Thistle -1 League 1
  • Ayr United 1 - League 1

Scottish cup

  • Celtic - 13
  • Rangers - 10
  • Aberdeen - 5
  • Hearts - 3
  • Dundee United - 2
  • St Mirren - 1
  • Motherwell - 1
  • Kilmarnock - 1
  • St Johnstone - 1
  • ICT - 1
  • Hibs - 1
  • Plus who ever wins in December

League cup

  • Rangers - 17
  • Celtic - 11
  • Aberdeen - 4
  • Hibs - 2
  • Dundee United - 1
  • Raith Rovers - 1
  • Livingston - 1
  • Kilmarnock - 1
  • St Mirren - 1
  • Ross County - 1

Challenge cup (Played in it 10 times)

  • Airdrie - 2
  • Stenhousemuir - 1
  • Stranraer -1
  • Queen of the South -1
  • ICT - 1
  • Falkirk -1
  • St Mirren - 1
  • Ross County -1
  • St Johnstone - 1

Europa league (5 times)

  • Sevilla - 3
  • Chelsea - 1
  • Atletico Madrid - 1

A fair spread of teams in that time with some notable absenses such as Dundee , Partick Thistle and Morton who will appear on a few others lists as they have won trophies in that time but not if Saints were in the competition. The European regulars should also have a fair spread on their lists if anyone else does this.

Interesting typing that out. Makes you really appreciate what Ronny Deila did for Scottish Football.

Didn't realise for the first 5 out of 7 seasons in the second tier, no 9th placed side survived the playoff.

Also note that the "big" teams like Hibs, St. Mirren, Hearts and Dundee have all been relegated twice from the top division with Saints in it, but we have only gone down once.

it was meant to be in direct competition , otherwise everyones list would just be the same depending on the length of time you had been at games.

The likes of Livingston , ICT and Ross County will have a wide range of teams on their lists having been in the lower leagues and made their way up as have Hamilton who had that disastrous spell ending with relegation to the 3rd division in the 99-00 season.

I'm sure if you ask nicely, @Jacksgranda could furnish you with some more accurate and comprehensive data over on the League Reconstruction thread.

The data is accurate I head to head for St Johnstone, every club will be different due to promotion and relegation. Aberdeen and Celtic who are the only two teams to have played in the same leagues as each other every year that any member of this forum has been alive and even they would have different winners in Europe due to playing in different competitions  in most years.

I'm not compiling another list starting in 1963 this time. I got pelters the last time for including the NASL (at someone else's suggestion) and the Summer Cup among other competitions.

But thanks for suggesting it G G

You’d think someone would have mentioned how long Kilmarnock have been in the top flight before, some record.

It's generally impossible to mention it on here without a St Johnstone fan mentioning Mark Hateley at centre-half for Rangers.
