First of the 2 all A-League Australia Cup play-off ties tonight in Darwin with a 19:00 ACST (10:30 BST) kick-off. Newcastle Jets v Melbourne Victory. The winner away to Brisbane Roar in the Round of 32. Tomorrow night, same venue and kick-off time it’s Perth Glory v Macarthur with the winner away to Campbelltown City in Adelaide. Hopefully they’ll be allowed to play it at their own ground.

ETA: Jets 2-0 up then proceed to let one in at 92 mins and a penalty equaliser after 97 mins. No goals in extra time but they won the shoot out 4-2.

Australia Cup Round of 32 gets underway tomorrow night with 4 games, all tier 2 except for A-League Wellington Phoenix

Broadmeadow Magic (NNSW) v Sydney United 58 (NSW)

North Eastern Metro Stars (SA) v Inglewood United (WA)

Peninsula Power (QLD) v Wellington Phoenix (NZ)

Mt Druitt Town Rangers (NSW) v Canberra Croatia (ACT)

All games on Ten Play over here and the Football Australia YouTube channel other places. The eastern state games kick-off at 19:30 and S.A. game 19:00 (10:30 BST for all 4).

Another games will be 9 Aug (4), 10 Aug (3), 13 Aug (2), 14 Aug (3).

Completely forgot there were 2 Australia Cup ties yesterday. Oakleigh Cannons (2) almost caused a surprise as they were 2-1 ahead against Mel C until the 80th min then Shity scored the winner at 90+4.  The other game was an all A-League tie played in Wollongong between Sydney and the Mariners. 2-2 FT, 3-3 AET with the Smurfs winning 10-9 on penalties.

Last 3 games from this round are tonight, Newcastle Jets (1) v Brisbane Roar (1), Northcote City (3) v Adelaide United (1) and hoping to witness a surprise at Campbelltown City (2) v Macarthur FC (1).

Campbelltown City become the 11th (I think) NPL side to on out an A-League side after defeating the cup holders, Macarthur 2-1 last night and I was part of the 947 crowd. Think MacArthur become the 12th A-League side to lose as Sydney United defeated 2 on their way to last year’s final.

No I was at the Campbelltown game. They’d be annoyed not getting a possible easier tie but regardless Phoenix have to play all their Cup games in Australia.

APIA v SFC will be interesting. Prefer NPL sides to defeat A-League sides but hoping that doesn’t happen in the Sydney Utd v Roar game.

2023/24 A-League fixtures released with opening fixture Adelaide United v Central Coast Mariners Fri 20 Oct. No break for Asian Cup. Games won’t kick-off at 3pm or earlier from mid-December to end of February so what do we have in Adelaide, 10 Dec v Brisbane Roar 2.30 pm, I’m sure the weather will behave itself and stay below 30 that Sunday, 14 Jan v Macarthur 4 pm which is usually the hottest part of the day here. Two away games v Western United are listed as venue TBC as are all other Western United’s home fixtures. .

There’s at least 2 clubs still on the go that I know have some Scottish heritage. Albion Rovers (VIC) although that’s in name only nowadays. Through amalgamation they’ve been been Turkish for a long time but after a few name changes reverted back to Albion Rovers. Grange Thistle (QLD) have been around since 1920 and possible earlier. There might be some in lower divisions of the Northern NSW leagues. There’s a Darwin Hearts in the NT NPL but their origin is Nepali.

Just watched the end of the St George League Women’s Grand Final between Banksia Tigers and Scots FC Lions which made me search for info about one of the teams (they won 1-0 with a goal about 6 mins before FT).

More Australia Cup games tonight. Melbourne Knights (2) v Campbelltown City (2), hoping for a City win. WSW (1) v Adelaide United (1) and Metro Stars (2) v Inter Lions (3) so potentially all 3 Adelaide sides could make it to the next round. I’ve got a ticket ($15) for the Metro Stars game but only going if the weather holds. It’s 25.4 C just now (13:35) and getting quite windy with supposedly a lot of rain coming. 
 

Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City won the weekend ties. One of Roar’s five goals was scored by 15 year old Quinn MacNicol becoming the youngest Cup scorer at 15 years 228 days.
