The Ilford Drummer
Correct me if I'm wrong with theses dates. Teams can train from 17th May.? Clubs can hold players contracts til 30th June.? Season starts 17th July?

The Ilford Drummer
So a current club can prevent a player training with new club til 17 days before season starts. That seems harsh on players wanting to move?
Shanner
would there be any practical reason for a club to retain a player that was intent on moving on other than spite? surely the sooner they depart the sooner their wage is freed up. Asking because I'm genuinely wondering.
The Ilford Drummer
Yes spite, hearing some examples already, complete fence siting in my opinion. no wages issues, don't start til season kicks off. Hope the SFA are staffed up to hear disputes.
not man of the match
Clubs need to wise up, come to an agreement with guys moving on and let guys come in too. Most will have similar situations surely.
glensmad
The clubs have already been asked to adopt a mutual common sense approach to this, as it will affect every team in what is a unique summer (hopefully). In reality we're only talking the difference of a week from the old SJFA registration dates, and there are a good number of players who are still signed up only to the 3rd weekend in June anyway.Hopefully most if not all clubs will "play the game" and release the registration of players whose contracts are about to expire and who they know are moving on, to allow them to play in friendly matches for their new teams before the end of June. The WoSFL Board have been aware of and discussed this issue for some time and have already alerted the clubs to it.
Sancho Panza
''asked'' '' mutual common sense'' ''play the game'' there lies the loop hole.
glensmad
''asked'' '' mutual common sense'' ''play the game'' there lies the loop hole. At the end of the day it's up to the clubs as the league does not control registrations.
Lobby Dossar
A lot of these players will have received a decent wedge as a signing on fee last year. I’m sure some clubs will want some of it back if they are going to pastures new this season. If it not forthcoming they are perfectly within their rights not to release these players Edited April 23, 2021 by Lobby Dossar

Killie65
At the end of the day it's up to the clubs as the league does not control registrations. I see Darvel have released 8 players and say the rest of the squad will be there next season
The Ilford Drummer
Sadly as predicted some teams not acting in the spirit of the agreement in releasing players immediately.
Bestsinceslicebread
Some teams are not releasing players because they players have not handed in the strips or training gear. Some bigger clubs can afford it but a lot of clubs in the WOSFL cant, so they require the gear back. So the club is in their right to retain the player until he hands the match and training kits back

The SFA would love to hear that case.
glensmad
Aye right. The SFA would love to hear that case. Such an example would not be a matter for the Scottish FA. If a player owes property back to the club and he is still under contract, then that club is under no obligation to release his registration before the expiry date until agreement is reached between the player and the club.
