Barry Ferguson's Hat
Athletico apparently sniffing around Trent. Would be surprised if he was to make the switch, but the Trippier transfer came from no-where as well.

doulikefish
Eddie Howe is what billions get you. Newcastle fans finding out that having wads of cash still means that nobody actually wants to move there

You get they RB teams willing to give young managers a chance and I like that. Howe might be given chance here. I think he is a bit behind Potter, the Brighton manager but he has something about him.

Potter is on another level to Howe, and even though he's been told he'll be sacked if he can't keep them in the league, i think he gets a pay off in the summer and they'll throw buckets of money at Overmars & Ten Hag.

Close, but it’ll be £30m and a Liverpool youth player.
Robin.Hood
New US TV rights for English Premier League set to go for $1.47 billion over 6 years ($245 million/year). For comparison, ESPN recently got Spain's La Liga for $1.4 billion over 8 years ($175 million/year).
Charles Stiles
Howe seems to be a strange case of the more money he has to spend the worse he gets. Newcastle are really going to have to fork out even bigger mega bucks now to get decent players to join in the 'project' of the guy whose last job saw him relegate Bournemouth.

Diamonds are Forever
Not convinced Howe is the right appointment just now. I think they'll need 3 different types of manager over the next few years. This season they need a short term appointment to keep them in the league by any means necessary. If they were to do that then next season they'd need someone to progress the club up the league and begin the first phase of signings. In a couple of years time if that works they'd be looking at the top managers to bring them success. They need to make sure they aren't trying to run before they walk, I'd have them odds-on to get relegated this year. Their entire focus this season should be staying in the league, Howe is one of the last managers I'd pick to come in and save my club from relegation. His signings (particularly big money ones) have been very poor and this is the market Newcastle will now be operating in. His defences have never been great, in fact his style of play just exposes his defence. Newcastle's defence is brutal and exposing them by having high and wide full backs and expecting them to play out from the back is suicide. And even if he could get them to do that it would take a while to implement that, they don't have that time. If I had to pick between Steve Bruce and Eddie Howe to prevent my club being relegated I'd go Bruce every time. I'd pick Eddie Howe to progress the club from a stable base next summer, but not just now. Charles Stiles
A 1-0 with the goal in the first minute doesn't feel much different to a 0-0 when you're a neutral.
