Monkey Tennis
7 hours ago, craigkillie said: In terms of the McGinn thing, it seemed to me that it was so that when the corner went to the back post, he could come back out and be onside for a header across the goal. He's going to start off unmarked, so he might stay that way too. Right. That makes sense. By standing there, he can't be picked up unless he and everyone else gets played onside. It'll be confusing and difficult for the defence to ensure he becomes marked in time for a ball to be played back across, following the free kick. That has a lot more logic to it than what Numbers was trying to claim. I fully expect him to explain to me today that it doesn't actually count as handball if the player catches it cleanly with both hands.
Tartan Dave
Set pieces were fucking awful again last night
KirkieRR
Aye. Scott McTominay 1) is our most consistent finisher and a player you want in the box for a corner and 2) is crap at taking corners, rarely beating the first man. So was it Setpiece Hippy's idea to put him on corners?
BB_Bino
The guy is an absolute charlatan, hopefully his time with the national squad is up. I've heard reports over the years that he's a great coach, that might be the case, but he has done nothing to enhance our set play imho.
Elgin Macca
Our set pieces have been nothing short of diabolical recently. Over-complicated and unnecessary routines that aren't even close to coming off. The one against Poland where we had a free kick well within shooting range for a left footer but ended up trying some sort of cut back that was never on straight to the Polish player nearly had me heading for the exit. I realise we have a lot of other problems right now but this is winding me up something chronic....
Jives Miguel
We scored from a set-piece in both games? Anyone who wants rid of him is off their head. Aston Villa are the best set-piece teams in Europe.
BB_Bino
Was Austin McPhee a part of the Coaching Staff this month? I'm not sure he was, I never saw him in the technical area during any of the set plays at Hampden 9like he normally does) or on the TV last night. Have to agree about the over complicated routines though.
