I wonder what the affect on the Russian economy this will have. There have been photographs leaked showing Gazprom engineers being called up, which is pretty astonishing given the importance of that colony and sector to Russia.

IDK, while the emptying of the Germans and replacement with Russians resulted in todays 87% ethnic Russian population, if Russia itself moves in a more progressive direction, Belarus or Poland (assuming a more rightward swing in the manner of Hungary) might be interesting to them. But, your mileage may vary.

^^^ word salad

The Russian population of Kaliningrad are not and never will opt for Polish rule. In the same way that Texas is not going to opt for rule by Mexico.

There must be quite a few Nordstream engineers with free time until they start shifting supply lines to the South East. I doubt the middle class flight will make much difference to Putin's conscription efforts, most people won't be able to afford travelling abroad without a job to go to.

Funny you should say that, as the Independent Texas Movement here has a plan for a Confederation with Mexico, with the belief the industrious Anglos in Texas will dominate that arrangement and then be able to create a Greater Texas.

Voting ends on Tuesday but they already had the turnout figures early this morning, these Russian pollsters don't f**k about.

MOSCOW, September 23, 2022. The All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) presents data from a survey commissioned by the Expert Institute for Social Research (EISI) among residents of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions on voting on the issue of territorial belonging of these regions.

Most of the residents of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions surveyed declare their intention to take part in the voting on the issue of the territorial affiliation of these regions. The maximum declared turnout was recorded in the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics - 87% each. In the Zaporozhye region, the figure was 80%, in the Kherson region - 69%.

The absolute majority of the polled residents of the DPR and LPR, who are ready to take part in the referendum, are in favor of the republics joining the Russian Federation as subjects of the Russian Federation (97% each). Difficult to answer or undecided on the decision for 3%. The polled residents of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, declaring their intention to take part in the voting, also support secession from Ukraine and the inclusion of regions into Russia as its subjects (87% and 89%, respectively). 2% of the residents of these regions oppose such a decision, every tenth found it difficult to answer or has not yet decided (11% and 9%, respectively).

Russian authorities plan to conscript 1.2 million people for their “partial mobilization,” Meduza has learned from a source close to one of the country’s federal ministries.

Additionally, a source close to Moscow’s leadership told Meduza that up to 16,000 people from the capital are slated to be drafted. This was confirmed by a source close to one of Russia’s federal ministries. Authorities in St. Petersburg plan to draft roughly 3,200 people, according to a source close to the Presidential Envoy to Russia’s Northwestern Federal District.

A source close to one of the country’s federal ministries noted that authorities “recommended keeping recruitments to a minimum” in regional capitals. Instead, the government is conscripting people “in rural areas, where there’s no media, no opposition, and more support [for the war],” said the source.

Realistic… If Russia did use a nuclear weapon in Ukraine

What would the international response be?

China would drop them like a stone, and however NATO responded Russia wouldn't gain by it, best outcome for them would be we all lose. I don't think there's a chance of it happening unless somebody blows up the Kremlin.

So, just to summarise the last few pages: there's such things as 'low radiation' nuclear weapons; Britain overthrew the legitimate Ukrainian government and installed Zelensky; Britain (or 'the West') have been arming Ukraine in a proxy war for years and are placing nukes inside Ukraine to threaten Russia, leaving Putin no choice but to invade Ukraine (are these nukes the 'low radiation' variety...?); Russia's new 300,000 recruits will definitely be better trained and equipped than the entire army they've burned through since February, because they are definitely going to overhaul their entire culture militarily between now and the deployment of the new forced troops.

Wow.

Aye, that's a fair precis...
