Sortmeout Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 The Hamilton Accies fraud case from a few years ago came into my mind today and I just thought I would give you all a reminder of it too. https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/football-fraudsters-posed-as-fraud-busters-to-rob-club/amp/ Have any other clubs admitted to falling victim to anything similar to this? I would doubt if Hamilton were the only club to have lost money to this or some kind of other scam. Up until recently a very cash heavy business and without being too harsh some of the administration at a lot of teams seems to leave a lot to be desired so I would assume football clubs are a bit of an easy target at times. Kilmarnock of course did the opposite and actively scammed money from our own fans via a rigged half time or lottery draw I’m sure. 0 Quote
Sortmeout Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 @Skyline Drifter got no idea of your actual role but did your club change procedures for certain things after Accies suffered this loss? 0 Quote
Raith Against The Machine Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 I don't think we need another thread to discuss John Hughes. 9 Quote

Thistle_do_nicely Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 (edited) There was talk years ago of barry hughes being interested in buying us, iirc he got fined/jailed for mortgage fraud a few years ago. Edit: looked it up and yep, also done for money laundering although his jail sentence was quashed. Edited March 21, 2022 by Thistle_do_nicely 0 Quote
Stellaboz Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Forget that, what happened to the office worker at Rugby Park after all these years, Tamina I think? 0 Quote
Shandon Par Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Pars were involved in some sort of multi million pound non-payment scandal but I can’t remember the details. 1 Quote
RiG Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 (edited) Not the same level as Accies but at ICT there have been a few folk in the past who have "misappropriated funds". Someone like @ICTChris might remember the days of Debbie Ross at ICT? IIRC she was buying drinks for personal social events and charging them to the club Edited March 22, 2022 by RiG 0 Quote

I met her in Foxes after a game once and she did buy me a few drinks. I assumed that it was my youthful good looks and charm but clearly she just loved theft. 2 Quote
Hawk89 Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Must have been a few clubs tied up in the Icelandic banking collapse? Think Icesave were the big one that most councils lost million to. Seem to remember reading about the "advice" their government took from an economics professor at Harvard with a very familiar surname in the banking sector about opening up their financial sector. 0 Quote

Just as quickly as she appeared she disappeared again. I’m sure she was a real person but I’m not sure if the account on here was genuine. It all seemed to just go away after a couple of weeks. 0 Quote

I think it was either player registrations or the team sheets on a Saturday that she was asked to forge a signature onto. 0 Quote

killiepiemuncher Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 Did we not scam £13 Million from the Bank of Scotland at one point. We’re actually quite good at this …. 0 Quote

Richey Edwards Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 Didn't Queens Park sign a player a few years ago who turned out to not be a footballer at all? I think he was Italian. 0 Quote
D'Jaffo Posted March 23, 2022 Posted March 23, 2022 We were done last year when David Hopkin managed to convince our naive chairman he was a football manager. 3 Quote
