In this case the two eventual finalists will enter the City Cup against the EoSFA members in the SPFL from this season that choose to participate (Kelty & EC). The cup is usually played for during the following season these days. The 2021-22 Cup will therefore be played during the 2022-23 season. 2 Quote

Thanks for that @HibeeJibee is probably the best person to explain, as my understanding is it's a fairly fluid situation. Until fairly recently the SPFL/SFL just had the one EoSFA member taking part (Berwick Rangers). The City was a final against them and the EoS Qualifying Cup winner. Then Edinburgh City joined the SPFL and it became a set of semis between Berwick(now Kelty)/Edinburgh City/the two EoS Qualifying Cup finalists. I'd imagine if Bonnyrigg Rose get promoted and stay in the EoSFA. It would then be a case of Kelty/Bonnyrigg/Edinburgh City/EoS Qualifying Cup winner. Maybe if there's 4 EoSFA members in the SPFL that would make quarter finals with the 4 Qualfying Cup semi finalists. After that I don't think anyone's had to worry about what would happen in quite some time. 1 Quote
HibeeJibee Posted April 6, 2022 Author Posted April 6, 2022 Clubs who win/reach final of EOS Qualifying Cup - better known as 'Image Printers Cup' and 'Football Nation Cup' in recent years - get bonus of entering the 'City Cup' alongside SPFL clubs. Competition is usually played early the following season - like the Community Shield or European Supercup. When it was just Berwick only the winner entered. Now you've got Edinburgh City and Kelty both finalists enter. Bonnyrigg going up would mean returning to only the winner. (It hasn't had more than 4 participants since before WWII - back then, briefly, the winner or finalists meant 2x QFs followed by SFs). 1 Quote
Ginaro Posted August 23, 2022 Posted August 23, 2022 Kelty through to the SPFL Trust Trophy third round so a new date will need to be found for their semi, same if FC Edinburgh City win against Stranraer tomorrow. 0 Quote

HibeeJibee Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 (edited) Kelty Hearts 0-1 Gala Fairydean Rovers Both having exited the Scottish Cup earlier than they'd have liked, these sides took the opportunity to play their EOS Cup SF and it proved a tight encounter. It saw the City Cup return after a hiatus of 3 years 2 months 23 days, while Kelty made their debut in the competition, and Gala returned after an absence of 25 years. There was a decent crowd of 200-250 as the venerable tournament debuted north of the Forth. Kelty rested some regulars, but still fielded a strong XI that got supplemented from the bench as the tie wore on. Gala had to weather many periods of prolonged pressure from the hosts - but their defence was solid and manful. What proved the winner came around 30mins when Quinn Mitchell controlled a blocked shot and arched it over the 'keeper from 25yds. Fifers attacked with increased vigour and ultimately desperation as 2nd half wore on and had a couple of good chances to equalise, but couldn't bring them off. Finally after what seemed an inordinate amount of stoppage time the ref blew up, to send Gala and their small band of supporters into joyous relief. So the Fairies - with their first win since 1988 - progress to the Final, where they'll face the winner of holders Edinburgh City v Linlithgow Rose. Edited January 21, 2023 by HibeeJibee 1 Quote

HibeeJibee Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 Linlithgow Rose 3-1 Edinburgh City History was made in West Lothian as a strong crowd - probably the largest to witness an EOS Cup tie in many a year - saw a fine and entertaining match as tier 6 beat tier 3. I assume Linlithgow will have highlights up but suffice to say there were some excellent efforts, outstanding saves (in particular a superb double penalty stop by the visitors 'keeper), and quality goals most notably #2 for the hosts. As always a warm welcome at Prestonfield and it hotted up enough for the Meadowbank side to finish with 10-men after double yellow. Falling behind early, a penalty levelled for the Citizens, but Cunningham's thunderbolt and Stowe's late penalty sank the holders. Rose go marching on to the Final where an enthralling encounter v Gala Fairydean Rovers awaits. 2 Quote
HibeeJibee Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 (edited) For those of you who love a fabulous City Cup fact... and frankly who doesn't?... this is only 5th time in the cup's 120 year history both qualifiers have reached the Final. Previous instances were: 1930 Clerwood walkover v St Bernard's (after 3-3 draw) / Murrayfield walkover v Leith Athletic 1951 Eyemouth Utd bye / Leith Athletic 0-3 Peebles Rovers 1992 Berwick Rangers 2-2 Vale of Leithen (L-W pens) / Whitehill Welfare 2-0 Meadowbank Thistle 1999 Berwick Rangers 1-1 Lothian Thistle (L-W pens) / Livingston 1-1 Whitehill Welfare (L-W pens) 2023 Kelty Hearts 0-1 Gala Fairydean Rovers / Linlithgow Rose 3-1 Edinburgh City Edited February 8, 2023 by HibeeJibee 1 Quote

Auld Heid Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 A real schoolboy error by FC Edinburgh if they failed to book a park. An enjoyable game, one which any neutral would have struggled to tell which team played SPFL and which played EoS. -1 Quote
