Banffshire

Whitehills looked pretty sleepy when I visited this time last year - I got a late lunch down near the water but don't think it'd be up to much in the evening.

I'd visit but jump on the bus and base yourself in Portsoy instead, which is a bit busier and more interesting to wander around. The Station Hotel is fine in Portsoy: there *was* a good pub down at one of the harbours but it might not have survived the last lockdown/been converted into something else.

Cullen, Findochty and (other side of Banff) Gardenstown/Crovie can all easily be accessed and are well worth visiting as well.

Cheers for that, the Seafield Arms in Whitehills is a fair bit cheaper than the Station Hotel in Portsoy so I think I'll do the opposite, go out in Portsoy and sleep in Whitehills. Surprised to see how good the buses are, last bus back to Whitehills is around 11pm which is late enough for me these days.

The Sail Loft in Portsoy is probably cheaper than both. An excellent, modern hostel/bunkhouse type setup.

Looks like somebody's block booked it for most of the Autumn, price for a private room is only £25, I'll bear it in mind for next time.

Whitehills specifically. Thinking of stopping off for a night or so after a cup game in Turriff. Dump or nice enough? Somewhere better on that bit of coastline?

Banff itself is quite nice.  Plenty of white hills.  I think they call it snow.

My old next door neighbour Nan Taylor was from Whitehills. Or Fitehills as she called it.  She did have a couple daughters though, one which bore a tricking resemblance to Belinda Carlisle and was very nice.

I'd ask you how nice she was to you but no doubt you'd say Our Lips are Sealed

I used to live in Sandend (or San-aine as it's know locally), they have a good caravan park in there for accommodation near Portsoy, 20 mins walk or 2 mins in a Taxi. Go in the other direction a bit further and you will come to Cullen, home of the famous fish soup, although a very sleepy town.

Aye, nearly all the pubs have closed, sadly.

Yeah pretty much just the Grant Arms left, there is a bar in both the seafield hotel and the royal Oak but they are hotel bars and priced accordingly. The Grant is the only proper pub left in Cullen.

It is a beautiful town though, well worth a visit to see the viaducts and the beach on a fine day.
