Old Bing
After his recent performances he deserves his own thread. There was some interesting comments from John Carver regarding him. -‐---------------------------- “I really like Jack. I’ve recommended him to a couple of Premier League clubs and, without going into detail, one of them almost took him in the summer. He’s a centre-back who can play and he’s quick. That’s an attribute you need in the Premier League. If you’re quick and you’re comfortable in possession, you have a chance of playing in the Premier League. This is part of his development now. He wasn’t getting a game in Brugge so he had to go and play. He’s gone out to Italy and hopefully he’ll get a run of games. Clubs will be watching him. Everyone wants a centre-back with pace. I hope he ends up back in the UK - because it’ll be easier for me to watch him This has to be another start point in Jack’s career. I’m sure if his club manager has watched him for Scotland - which I’m sure he has - he’ll be thinking: ‘I have to put him in my team'. They’re joint bottom of the Italian league and conceded four goals in their last game. So he must be thinking that Jack has to go into the team. This has to be the start of something for Jack. He performed immaculately in the three games for us, along with many others. It was a gamble for Steve to put him in and keep him in. But he’s matured and he dealt with it brilliantly.” ----‐------------------------ I completely agree, his performances in the last 3 games were magnificent, literally 10 out of 10 every game. Watching these games its hard to fathom how hes not done better in his career so far. Hopefully its not too late for him to be recognised and become a regularly at a really good level. Hes good enough to play in the EPL for me. Yet he's played 7 mins for Cremonese this season on loan. Whats gone wrong for him at club level so far?
craigkillie
He only joined Cremonese on deadline day so they've only had three games since he joined. I noticed he wasn't even on the bench at the weekend which I put down to fitness after playing 270 minutes for us.Neither of the moves to bigger clubs really worked out for him, I'm not sure he's well suited to the high pressure environment like that.

Perhaps, do you mean high pressure environment as in the day to day club life pressure and expectations? He certainly can handle the pressure of international football.
gannonball
He’s probably more suited to international football than British Style football. When he was at Celtic he took far too many needless touches which would invite pressure on himself. I think a move to the EPL would have maybe have been a bridge too far for him in that respect for now. A bit of a cliche but I think going o the Serie A as a defender was probably the better outcome for him. He’s come on leaps and bounds since he’s left us but tbh he hadn’t actually played much first team football at that age when we signed him and it was at a pretty low level. Tbh I never watched him much at celtic, but when I did he just seemed to be a guy who's confidence was shot. He's 27 now, I'm obviously guessing but its possible he's just matured as a person as well as improved as a footballer now.
TheScarf
There's something about him that just screams 'signing for Brentford in the summer'.
ICTChris
He must have had one of the weirdest career paths of any current top Scottish player. His wiki is just complete anarchy

Except maybe Club Brugge.
DAFC.
He was frozen out at Club Brugge. He scored the goal that won them the league and played plenty in the Champions League last season. To be punted on loan to Serie A canon-fodder is a tad odd, though. I'm surprised he settled on that. Thought someone like a Bournemouth, Leeds etc (EPL mid table side essentially) might have took a punt on him given his improvements and consistency for the national team.

Interesting history with Jack Hendry: The CEO of Ostende has a Scottish wife whose children were at the same creche as mine very briefly. She told me that he had started a campaign to get Jack Hendry in the Scotland team before the Euros and had got articles placed in the newspaper to do so. I'll be honest that I can't remember what newspaper it was. I never really understood why as he was on loan at Ostende. Then I realised there must have been an option to buy and the hope was to increase his value so they could sell him on (which they immediately did). Nothing against Jack Hendry as I think he was oustanding in the last three games. I just wonder how often that sort of thing happens. I suppose it probably does. And probably the increase in his profile means its more likely the scotland manager is going to watch him. But at the same time he's still getting picked for his performances. 43 minutes ago, ICTChris said: He must have had one of the weirdest career paths of any current top Scottish player. 2426255
He had a slightly ropey start to his Scotland career too, It wasn't until September 2021 in the games against Moldova and away in Austria that he started to convince people. He seemed to be the first man to be substituted if things weren't going to plan (see Austria, Israel and Czech Republic home games). He has since demonstrated his value to the National Team even prior to last months fixtures in his positional versatility and by his performances. In terms of club level I'm not sure what the reasoning is. I suppose everyone was hoping his career would follow an upward trajectory following his move from Oostende to Club Brugge but things change quickly in football. For all we know he might work his way into the Cremonese team, go on to have an exceptional season and ultimately get a move to a club higher up the chain such as Fioerentina, Roma or Atalanta and then the picture changes again. Club Brugge have changed manager 3 times in the year or so that he has been there.
Gordopolis
I didn't realize he'd played quite as few games as that (160 in total, aged 27).He's clearly a player, albeit one who's taken a long time to settle (and still hasn't really). Plus, he has always seemed to walk the knife edge of being a confident ball playing CB and one who overcooks things and gets his team in trouble.

I read somewhere (can’t honestly remember where though) that the fans at Brugge liked him as a player, though he did well and were upset that he was being punted. It’s pretty strange unless there’s behind the scenes stuff that we don’t know about, though he’s never really seemed to come across as being especially difficult or anything like that.

I was going to suggest that as well, but its just speculation. There is the dressing room video which was at oostende With him blaming a team mate for a goal being conceded, and he comes across as quite a forceful character, to put it mildly. Also he comes across as a guy who wants to win, and takes his job very seriously. Which i suppose is a good thing. Perhaps he's a bit full on tho.

This was the point I got sick of making to Celtic fans who constantly tore into him. He was getting chucked into CL games and the expectation was that he'd perform like a seasoned pro, when the reality was that for a lad of 23 he'd really only played the amount of 1st team football you'd expect in a good 18-19 year old. He was never 'shite' like many of them wrote him off as, he was just much younger and underdeveloped as a footballer than they realised.
